ANTI-THEFT BAG WITH FINGERPRINT AND GPS

 CHAPTER I

This chapter presents the introduction of the study, the conceptual framework, the

statement of the problem, the hypothesis, the significance of the study and the definition of

terms.

1.1 Background of the Study

Nowadays, stealing of valuable things or stuff inside the bag is one of the major

concerns of every individual. An ordinary bag is used to bring some things that is important and

things that are light to bring wherever you want to go to, a nonheavy materials that suits for the

basic needs. In a modern generation like today is composed of several technologies and that is

why the ideas to be develop or innovate must go on with. The primary and major problem of an

ordinary bag faces nowadays is the stealing, stealing is everywhere so that safety issues are

prone. Especially to all bags that can have important matters when it comes to public. Thought it

helps the people with their belongings specifically to the students but for the safeness of all it, so

that it should be improve. According to Charlton (2018), rumors and incidents specially to the

students like drugs, knives and guns being stored in lockers brings into question the age-old

practice of assigning hall room lockers to students. In many schools across America, backpacks

have taken the place of locker. The days of struggling with stubborn lock combinations,

balancing armloads of books and racing through hallways to beat the tardy bell to retrieve.

Essential materials are virtually gone. However, recent health and securing issues have

raised alarm about backpacks also being used to hide contraband and weapons.
 In using ordinary bags there are a lot of possible challenges that can be faced. It

causes the students worries and required full attention especially when they put something

expensive inside since the bag since it is not hundred percent secured. Ordinary bags used low

quality fabric hence get robbed and damage easily. Especially today, bag manufacturer

focuses on the design of the bag to get or catch the attention of the buyers without considering

the durability of the bag. Ordinary bag is not suitable to use when it is raining since the fabric

being used is not waterproof and it might damage the stuff or things inside the ordinary bag.

In this research study entitled anti-theft bag with fingerprint and GPS, the

researchers have come up with an alternative and basic way to track down and catch thieve;

The designed bag is not only for fashion purpose but also as a helper and at the same time

burden less works from policemen. The research product has four (4) main features. First,

the zip of this backpack compartment will be covered. Second, this bag composed of GPS so

that if the owners forgot where they put their bag, it is easy for the owner to find it with the

use of GPS which is connected to their mobile phone to locate the location of the bag. The

third is the researcher’s bag is multi-purpose; you can use the bag in many different ways,

for example you want to make the backpack into a shoulder bag, then you can make it easily

since the will be designed to become a multi-purpose bag. Lastly is the main feature of the

researcher’s bag is the fingerprint device, it is use to detect if the bag is yours or not, and if

you are the owner of the bag your fingerprint will be programmed to the device, when

you’re not the owner and you try to open it, the bag will alarm. In this design, the bag can

help lessen the crimes of thievery. The electronic technology like GPS and fingerprint
 sensor can give confidence to the people who uses it and discourage thieves because there is

a high chance of failure and being caught. Bags designed with anti-theft security system can

protect the belongings inside it more effectively compared to the normal bag without anti-

thief security system. With the use of the researcher product the “Anti-theft bag with

fingerprint and GPS” will surely protect your personal belongings.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

This study aims determine the level of awareness of college students of Academia De

Tecnologia on the possible challenges of existing ordinary bag.

1. What is the profile of college students of Academia De Tecnologia in terms of

a. Sex

b. strand

2. How many college students of Academia De Tecnologia, Inc, have experienced being victims

of theft?

3. What types of bags does the college students of ADTM prefer?

4. What is the level of awareness of college students of ADTM in terms of

a) Purposes of securing bag

 b) Possible challenges that Grade 12 students of STI College Cotabato may face or

encounter in using ordinary type of bag.

1.3 Objective of the study

This study the researcher’s is seeking to solve the following problems such as, theft

incidents and lost of belongings.

The researchers aim to decrease incidents od theft by increasing the security features that

normally comes in a bag. Such as, a fingerprint feature to open the bag.

1.4 Significance of the Study

This study has been conducted to determine the possible challenges that e beneficiary

may experience when they use ordinary bag. The researchers conducted this study to also put an

awareness in Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato about the challenges of using

ordinary bag. Below are the list of beneficiary and how they benefit on the study. Thereby, this

study will be beneficial to the following:

ADTM Administration

This study will be beneficial to the institution for they will be able to determine the

level of awareness of the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering students of Academia De

Tecnologia in Mindanao on existing ordinary bag. The researcher’s study will also serve as an

instrument to improve the scope of the recent study.

Teachers

The benefits of the product to the teacher where they can lessen their worries in living

their bag inside the school campus, office, and classroom since the researcher’s product is built-

in with security features.

Students

The benefits of the product to the student where they can avoid to lost their expensive

stuff and valuable things. Thus, students can prevent these psychological effects such as

sadness, hopelessness, and other antisocial behavior.

Future researchers

They can benefit by having knowledge in the product and being aware, they can also

improve the product, and this can serve as their guide when they have their research.

Policemen

The benefits of the product to the policemen were they can easily track down and catch

the thieves since the researchers product has GPS to locate the exact location of the bag and it

will surely lessen their works in terms of robbery.

Travelers

The benefits of the product to the travelers was they can avoid being victim of stealing

especially if they go to a place or country that has high rate of case of stealing.
Consumers/ buyers

The benefits of the product to the consumers/buyers were they can use the product for

a long period of time since it is made of durable materials which are not easy to destroy or

damage.

1.5.1 Limitation of the study

The researchers study only focused on the awareness of college students if Academia

De Tecnologia, Inc., on ordinary bag. The researchers provided only and limited the questions

into two columns: securing ordinary bag and challenges on ordinary bag. In securing ordinary

bag, the researchers mentioned only six statements. While, in the challenges of ordinary bag, the

researchers mentioned only 5 statements and there are still more statements that are not

mentioned or covered in the study. The respondents of the study are the only college students of

Academia De Tecnologia in Mindanao, Inc.

1.5.2 Scope of the Study

Based on the result, knowing the purpose of securing bag and challenges of an ordinary

bag will help the college students of ADTM to avoid being a victim of stealing. Respondents of

the study are often aware on the purpose of securing bag. However, it is not enough to protect

one's personal belongings specially when going to a place that has a huge case of robbery and

thievery. With the use of the researcher’s product, the anti-theft bag with fingerprint and GPS
will help everyone to protect their personal belongings since it is built-in different security

feature.

This figure shows the existence of ordinary bag and the awareness of college students

of Academia De Tecnologia upon using this typical kind of bag. Specifically, it demonstrates the

challenges of utilizing an ordinary bag and the ought/purpose of securing it.

1.7 Hypothesis

In ordinary bag, most of the respondents are experiencing challenges especially stealing,

and loss of belongings. If this study will success the product to be implement which is a bag with

a technologize features, such as GPS and fingerprints.

1.8 Definition of Terms

Upon conducting this research, some unfamiliar words have been encountered. Each of

words is given meaning for the better understanding of the people.

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS

A type of bag with built-in safety features. It is design to help the user avoid becoming

victim of theft.

Fingerprint scanner

A type of electronic security system that uses fingerprints for biometric. It is the main

feature of the researcher’s product.

GPS
 Stands for Global Positioning System, it is a radio navigation system that uses signals

from satellites to fix the exact location of a radio receiver.

Life span bag

A bag that can be used for a long period of time since it is made of durable material

that is not easily broken and damage.

Lockable zipper

A zipper in which is not accessible to prevent stealing of valuable things.

Multi-purpose Bag

A type of bag that contains four different types of bag such as sling bag, hand bag, String

bag, and Backpack that put in all together in one bag.
