Ballasting / De-Ballasting Operation

Notice at Ballast Control Panel Figure

General Precaution to Avoid Damage to

Centrifugal Ballast Pump
Think before operating valves and pumps, remind
yourself of What You Are Doing!!
9 Operate valves gradually and sequentially (one by one) to minimize the effect
of Pressure Surge (water hammering).
9 Ensure that suction line and pump casing are always filled up with liquid
before starting pump or changing over pump suction.
9 Throttle the delivery valve of centrifugal pump sufficiently or shut it off (as
appropriate) before changing over pump suction.
9 For safe operation of pump, monitor following
¾ suction and delivery pressure of pump
¾ Casing & bearing temp and vibration of pump
¾ Current drawn by pump.
¾ Tank Sounding
9 If suction and delivery pressure of pump are unsteady, lower the pump rpm
and/or throttle delivery valve gradually, till pressure becomes steady.

9 Be aware, failure to comply with above can result in Heavy

Damage to pump and pipe line.
