Sub: Working of hand brakes on Diesel locomotives.
Ref: Railway Board letter No. 2024/Elect (TRS)/440/9 dated 08/03/2024.
There has been an incidence of rolling down of goods train in Ferozepur division of N.Rly on
25/02/2024. On investigation it has revealed that the hand brakes on the diesel loco were not working.

In view of the above, it is advised to ensure functioning of hand brakes in all diesel
turn out from shed. Sr. DME (D) /BNDX is advised to sensitize the shed staff & supervisor to record

and notice the defect in hand brakes in loco log book. No locoshould be turned out from shed
working of handbrakes / parking brakes.

A census to be taken on no. of locos having the trouble of hand brakes and in case if any
hand brake is not working then PDC of functioning of defective hand brake may be ascertained. Reply
in this regard may be sent to the undersigned latest by 21/03/2024 to appraise the Railway Board.
