Justification:
On behalf of Offshore Project Department (OPD) and Hook-up and Tie-in
Division (HTD), I hereby submit my write-up to seek, clarification on
what coating system needs to be applied for Stainless Steel (Piping
Spools or Structural Steel Structures), if those falls under splash
zone.

Per the definition of Splash Zone taken from SAES-H-004 Edition Dec 23,
2018 it reads as below.

***** Splash Zone (for jacket legs and other members, conductors and
risers and piles exposed to sea water): Splash zone shall be considered
to extend from -2.41 to +4.91 m. (relative to Lowest Astronomical Tide
(LAT)). In case the first flange of the riser is below +4.91 m., the
level of first flange shall be considered as upper limit of splash zone
for the riser.*****

Let me present the case to CSD team by attached Zuluf-5 drawing related
to one (1) inch stainless steel line. Where we are supposed to install
and drain line at minimum elevation of +4120 mm (refer attached Drawing
RB-600625 Sht. No. 001, Rev. No. 00).

Note: CSD recommendation must not be limited to the situation presented

against Zuluf-5 itself in whatsoever regards. As we might have similar
scenarios elsewhere at offshore platform in coming days to follow, where

we might come across installation of stainless steel piping or stainless

steel structural structures at splash zone. Therefore, CSD
recommendation must be in general addressing what coating system needs
to be applied if the stainless steel piping or stainless steel
structural structures fall under splash zone.

Technically speaking, we are applying APCS-1B (Sigma Brand; Primer:

SigmaCover 410 Alu and Top Coat: SigmaCover 410) for uninsulated
stainless steel up to service temperature of 120 degree centigrade.
Moreover, APCS-19C (Interzone -1000) for carbon steel piping and carbon
steel structural materials falling under splash zone criteria.

Note: Aramco standard has no recommendation for stainless steel piping

or stainless steel structural structures those falls under splash zone,
thats the reason this CRM-ESR has been initiated to seek
recommendations.

To summarize my above write-up, I request CSD to please clarify

following two (2) queries.

1) Can we apply APCS-19C (Interzone -1000) at stainless steel piping and

stainless steel structural structures.
2) If APCS-19C (Interzone -1000) can not be applied then what would be
CSD recommendation from coating perspective for stainless steel piping
and stainless steel structural structures.

Remark: I had attached, AkzoNobel Letter Dated Dec 23, 2020 for
Application of APCS-19C Interzone 1000 over Stainless Steel (SST).

Attachment with this CRM-ESR:

A. AkzoNobel Letter Dated Dec 23, 2020 for Application of APCS-19C

(Interzone 1000 over SST)
B. IFC Drawing for Zuluf-5 Drain Line Drg. No. RB-600625, Sht. No. 001,

Recommendation:
For external coatings of Stainless Steel drain lines utilize APCS-19C in
splash zone area and APCS-1B or APCS-22A (If Sigma product utilized) on
the atmospheric zone area. Provide an overlap of 2 to 3 inches with
featheredging the coating for good adhesion between the two coating
systems. Utilize non metallic abrasives (eg. Garnet) for surface
preparation of Stainless steel surface.
