guidance of the Lord. Amen.

Greetings
A blessed morning to everyone! A blessed morning Ma’am!

Checking of Attendance
Mr. /Ms. Secretary kindly submit the list of Noted Ma’am
students who are absent today after the class.

A. Reviewing the previous lesson or

presenting the new lesson.

Last meeting we discussed the definition of a

circle and some of its parts.

To check if you still recall the topic last meeting.

It is a closed plane figure, but it is not a polygon.

It is the set of all points that are the same Circle, Ma’am!
distance from a fixed point.

Very Good!

What are the three parts of a circle that we We have radius, diameter, and a chord.
discussed last meeting?

Excellent!

Can you illustrate a radius?

Perfect!

How about the diameter?

Fantastic!

Lastly, the cord.

It seems that you clearly recall the topic last

meeting. Now, let’s continue with our topic
about circle.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson.

For today’s topic we are going to focus on two

things. First, about Tangent and Secant Lines and
the second one is about Arcs and Central Angle.

First, let’s talk about Tangent and Secant Lines.

Let’s define Secant Line. Kindly read.

A secant of a circle is a line in the plane of a
circle that intersects the circle in two points.

To illustrate what a secant line is. Look at the

figure above. As you can see intersects the circle
in two points. If you notice it seems that it is like
a chord but it’s not since the line continuously
passes the circle.

Did you understand the concept? Yes, Ma’am!

Next, let’s define what is tangent line? A tangent of a circle is a line in the plane
of a circle that intersects the circle in
exactly one point. The point where the
tangent intersects the circle is called the
point of tangency.

If secant line touches the circle at exactly two

points, when we are talking about tangent line,
we should know that it only touches one point.

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the

new lesson.

Let’s take a look at the figure below.

The secant line in the given figure is the line FG

or the blue line. While the tangent line is line j
and the point of tangency is at point H.

Question or Clarification? None, Ma’am!

If there’s none. Let’s try this.

Refer to the figure below. Identify the Secant

line, Tangent Line and the point of tangency.
Answer:

In the figure, HA intersects the circle at

exactly two points then it is called
secant. Line k is called tangent since it
intersects the circle at exactly one point
and the point of tangency is at point C.

Very Good!

Are there any questions? None, Ma’am

D. Discussion of new concepts and

practicing new skills #1.

Now, let’s talk about arcs and central angle.

Kindly read the definition of an Arc.

An Arc of a circle is two points on the
circle and the continuous part of the
circle between the two points. The two
points are called the endpoints of the arc.
Arc measurement is found by measuring
the central angle.
Thank you!

In the above figure, the arc is the purple line or

curve in the edge of the circle.

Next, kindly read what is Central Angle. A Central Angle is the angle with its
vertex at the center of the circle and
whose sides pass through the endpoints
of the arc.
Another is the Inscribed Angle. Kindly read. An Inscribed Angle is an angle whose
vertex is on a circle and whose sides
contain chords of a circle.

NOTE: The measure of the angle depends on its

intercepted arc. That the measure of central
angle is equal to the measure of intercepted arc,
whereas the measure of an inscribed angle is
equal to one-half the measure of its intercepted
arc.

Questions about Arcs, Central and Inscribed None, Ma’am!

Angle?

E. Discussing new concept and practicing

new skills #2.

Let’s proceed on the types of an Arc.

We have three (3). The semicircle, minor arc,
and major arc.

Kindly read the definition of Semicircle. A semicircle is an arc of a circle whose

endpoints are the points of the diameter.
The degree measure of a semicircle is
180.

Next, minor arc. Kindly read. A minor arc is an arc of a circle that is
smaller than a semicircle.

A major arc is an arc of a circle that is

Lastly, major arc. Kindly read. larger than a semicircle.

Take a look at the figure below.

Based on the definition of each part, will you
state

What are the semicircles in the given figure?

Anyone? CAR and CYR ma’am.

Very Good! How about minor arcs?

RA, AT, and TC ma’am.

Nice! How about the major arcs?

ACY, RTY, and TCR ma’am.
Excellent!

Is there any questions or clarifications?

F. Developing Mastery (Formative

Assessment 3)
TRUE OR FALSE
Determine whether each statement is true or
false.
Write TRUE if the statement is correct and
FALSE if the statement is incorrect. Answers:

1. All chords are diameters. False

2. All radii always have the same length. True

3. All chords always have the same length. False

4. All diameters are chords. True

5. All chords intersect at one point. False

6. A radius is not a chord. True

7. All diameters intersect at one point. True

8. A radius is half of a diameter. True

9. A secant contains a chord True

10. A tangent line intersects a circle at two False

points.

G. Finding practical application of the new

concept and skills in daily living.

Circles are often used in the design of athletic

tracks, amusement parks, building plans,
roundabouts, ferris wheels, etc., due to their
symmetrical properties. Camera lenses, pizzas,
ferris wheels, rings, steering wheels, cakes, pies,
buttons, etc. are some real-life examples of
spheres.

H. Making Generalization and Abstraction

about the lesson. It is a closed plane figure, but it is not a
polygon ma’am.
To sum up, what is a circle once again?
Radius, diameter, and chord ma’am.
Good!
What are the parts of a circle?

Very Good! A secant is a line in the plane of a circle

that intersects the circle in two points.
How about the secant and tangent? How do they However, a tangent is a line in the plane
differ? of a circle that intersects the circle in
exactly one point.

Excellent! The arc.

Based on our discussion a while back what is the
continuous part of the circle between the two
points? Semicircle, minor arc, and major arc
ma’am.
What are the 3 types of arcs?
It’s the central angle ma’am.
Good! What is the angle whose vertex is at the
center of the circle and whose sides pass through
the endpoints of the arc?
Very good! Inscribed angle ma’am.
Lastly, what is the angle whose vertex is on a
circle and whose sides contain chords of a
circle?

Excellent!
