The objective was to provide a comprehensive understanding of

The Helmet and Road Safety Awareness Program organized by
Uyir Club at Sri Krishna Arts and Science College on 10th January
2024, was a significant step towards promoting road safety. By

he guest speaker for the event was Mr. Srinivasan, Traffic Inspector - B14, Traffic -
Coimbatore City Police. He shared valuable insights regarding traffic rules, particularly
focusing on the importance of helmet usage. His expertise significantly enhanced the
credibility of the event, effectively communicating the crucial message about helmet
safety.

The coordination of the event was handled meticulously by Dr. O.M. Saravanakumar
and Dr. S. Shankar, the dedicated Uyir Club Coordinators at Sri Krishna Arts and
Science College. Their diligent efforts played a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless
execution of the program.

In addition to Mr. Srinivasan's insights on helmet usage, the session delved into
specific road traffic issues concerning college students. This included discussions on:

Pedestrian Safety: Emphasizing the importance of using designated walkways and


zebra crossings, especially around the college vicinity, to prevent accidents involving
pedestrians.

Distracted Driving: Highlighting the dangers of using mobile phones or other


distractions while driving or crossing roads, and the potential risks this poses to both
drivers and pedestrians.

Importance of Signals and Signboards: Educating students on understanding and


adhering to traffic signals and signboards to ensure safe commuting around the college
campus and nearby areas.

Responsibility as Road Users: Encouraging students to take responsibility for their


actions on the road, whether as pedestrians, cyclists, or drivers, to contribute to a safer
road environment.

Drinking and Driving Awareness: Discussing the severe consequences of driving


under the influence of alcohol or drugs and advocating for responsible behavior among
students when it comes to partying or social gatherings.

Promoting Public Transport and Cycling: Advocating for the use of public
transportation or cycling as eco-friendly and safer alternatives, especially for short
distances, to reduce traffic congestion and promote a healthier lifestyle among
students.
