are the best.
Which is more delicious: cookies and cream or (the students will prove their stand)

C. Lesson Proper

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3Egu8zU79s

Describe what happened on the video. There are two people debating. There are
also people who served as judge during the
argument.

Who are the two people debating? A mother and her child are debating.

What is the argument in their debate? They are arguing about cellphones.

Who convinced you, is it the parent or the kid? (answers may vary)

Yesterday, I introduced to you what debate is and how to

do a debate.

Now, let’s go back and deepen our understanding about

debate.

Who can read the definition of debate?

A debate is an organized argument or
contest of ideas in which the participants
In a debate they are fighting their stand using an
argument. discuss a topic from two opposing sides.

What are the two sides in a debate?

Pro side of Affirmative when they agree
with the statement and Con side of
Negative if they disagree or oppose the
topic.
Do’s and Dont’s during Debate

When a teacher/panel assigns a certain topic to you Yes ma’am.

whether you agree or disagree you need to defend the
side that you belong to. That is a debate. Understood?

If you are a participant in a debate, you need to make

your argument as strong as possible. You need to give Commanding means you look strong
correct information, examples, and you need to make and believable.
your voice commanding as much as possible.

Do you know what is commanding? It is against the rules of a debate. We need

to argue with class and avoid fallacy.

Also, you don’t attack your opponent personally. Why? Yes, ma’am. Ad hominem is a fallacy
where you irrelevantly attack a person
instead of addressing the argument.
Are you familiar with the term, Ad Hominem?

It shows fallacy because the other person

This image shows Ad Hominem Fallacy. Can you point discredits his opponent’s argument by
personally attacking him. Instead of
out the reason why the image shows fallacy?
discussing the argument itself, criticism is
directed toward the opponent's character.
That is right. Thank you so much for sharing your
ideas.

D. Application

The class will be divided into 2 groups. They will be

given a statement and they will assert using the
expressions.

Direction: React to the question below. Take a stand and

provide reasons for your side.

Statement 1. Do you think playing mobile games is

harmful or useful to you? “Taking a stand in an argument is necessary
to assert one's position, contribute to the
exchange of ideas, and potentially drive
E. Generalization towards resolution or understanding.”
“Why is it necessary to take a stand in an argument?”

F. Evaluation

DEBATE TIME!
I will group you into four. Today, we will be having a
debate. Defend the side that is assigned to your team. I
will give you 5 minutes to prepare.
