since inductive only and accurately detects metal items, and
the range varies depending on the metal.

III. METHODOLOGY

A. Components
This project was developed by using multiple sensors and
motors.
Inductive proximity sensor is one of them. It is also
known as Metal detector. It emits electromagnetic waves and
if there is a metallic object in the path, there is a disturbance
in the electromagnetic waves. This sensor is used to detect
metallic objects. Fig. 3. Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04

Servo motors are used as they are precise, and its position
can be controlled as needed. Two servos are used, the base is
rotated by the servo in Fig.4 while the lid is opened and
closed by the servo in Fig.5.

keeping an object on the sensor, it measures and returns the
moisture content of that object. This sensor was used to
detect wet or organic objects in this system. Fig. 4. MG995 Servo Motor

classifies it as a metallic object since it first detects the
metallic waste. In the event that the waste is neither wet nor
metallic, the ultrasonic sensor is activated. Ultrasonic sensors
function by determining distance. The sensor determines that
an object is present, and if the distance measured from the
sensor to the waste is less than 5 cm, then it is categorized as
dry waste. The waste is thrown into the dry dustbin as a
result of the base servo motor turning 180 degrees (where the
dry dustbin is located). There are three ultrasonic sensors
installed on the waste bins inside the main body. If a
particular dustbin is full, as determined by the ultrasonic

are used. The external dustbin is made up of cardboard.

B. Method
Three smaller bins are housed inside the main body of the
proposed waste segregation system. The body is covered
with a lid, whose opening and closing movements are
controlled by a servo (SG90) motor. The waste should be put
on the lid, where it will be determined if it is dry, wet, or
metal, and will then be sorted into the appropriate categories.
The sensors placed around the lid are a metal sensor
(inductive proximity sensor) to detect metal waste or objects,
a soil moisture sensor to determine if the waste is wet or dry
by measuring its moisture level (0–1000), and an ultrasonic
sensor to detect dry waste. The system initially checks for
metallic waste, then wet waste, and finally dry waste. If
metallic waste is detected after the object is put on the
dustbin lid, the metal sensor will transmit a signal, and the
servo motor at the base of the dustbin will move to position
0° (where the metal dustbin is mounted), causing the waste
to be deposited in the metal dustbin. In the case where the
waste is not metallic, the moisture sensor is activated. If the
moisture sensor detects moisture, a signal will be transmitted
to the base servo (if the moisture level is under 800). The
waste will then be put into the wet dustbin once the servo
motor turns 90 degrees (where the wet dustbin is installed).
When a wet metallic object is placed on the lid, the system Fig. 8. Flow of the System
