METHOD STATEMENT
LEAK PROOF START-UP

It will be the responsibility of DESCON to ensure leak proof start-up of the Plant /
Equipment after completion of Maintenance / Servicing / Inspection activities
during the Shutdown. Following procedure will be adopted as minimum:

1. Job Supervisor shall re-check that all type of flange surface have
been cleaned properly using wire brush, emery paper, high pressure
water, solvent or specified method.

2. Upon receiving of BOROUGE Inspection / Operation’s approval the

equipment shall be boxed up after obtaining a box up certification.

3. Job Supervisor shall ensure that new gasket of correct material and
rating as specified by BOROUGE in material reservation sheet is
used.

4. Job Supervisor shall ensure that manway covers, channel covers,

front covers are closed and flanged connection are made in the
presence of BOROUGE Inspection and Operations.

5. Job Supervisor shall check that stud bolts / nuts are properly
tightened in cross way configuration to ensure that gasket has been
completely pressed all around the casketed surface of the flange.

6. Job Supervisor shall ensure that a complete round of bolt tightening

is done after tightening the bolts in cross way configuration.

7. Engineer Incharge and QC inspector will check nuts on both side of

the stud of each type of flanged connection, covers and manways
etc. with fingers to have a feel that no nut has been left un tightened.

8. After thorough checking of tightening of bolts the peripheral surface of

flanged connection, covers, manways etc. will be covered with
masking tape. Job Supervisor and QC inspector will write their name
and sign on the masking tape for identification.

9. BOROUGE Operation will carry out Service Test / Leak Test with the
assistance of DESCON.

10. Hot Bolting will be carried out by DESCON where required.
