Background

Ir. Muhamad Abdul Rahman was born in Air Hitam, Johor. He studied in SK Air Hitam and completed his
secondary education at SMK Datuk Menteri in Air Hitam. He, then, pursued his college education at Kolej
Persediaan Pelajar/ ITM completing American Associate Degree Program (AAD) a twinning with State
University of New York at Buffalo. After completing his AAD, he then pursued his Degree at University of
Alabama, Birmingham where he received a Bachelor Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering in 1991.

Head of Civil & Structural Engineering Department, RAS Engineering S/B, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.
(May 2004 - July 2004)

• 5.7 km Part of MRR2 Elevated expressway Gombak to Batu Caves. Involved in constructability,
design reviews and contract administration.
• Lingkaran Terengganu Tengah. Bridge design reviews, and roadway design reviews.
• 5-multiple spans Nangoh Bridge, Sabah. Review and redesign bridge due to higher miscalculated
hide tide.
• Proposed development of Islamic Banking in Northern of Perlis. General infrastructure designs and
concept for 2000 acres.
• Subang Villa, Khartoum, Sudan, 6-Storey hotel with timber structure design.

Structural Engineer (Bridge and Building), STV Incorporation, Stratford, CT, USA. (Sept 2000 –
April 2004)

• Involved in final design of this multiple span segmental box girder bridge. This $110 Million
project includes the total replacement of the 3,800 foot main structure spanning over Housatonic
 River along with bridges over three local roadways. Involved in designs, preparing drawing and
calculation for replacement existing bridge Naugatuck Avenue. (Project Duration :2001- 2005)
• Broad Street Bridge, City of Norwalk, CT. Involved in design, preparing drawing and calculation for
proposed replacement existing superstructure.
• ConnDOT-95 Reconstruction, Bridgeport, CT Bridge Engineer Work included investigating the
capacity of existing structures, piles, pier bents and columns for the temporary construction of this
$180 million rehabilitation project. ( Project Duration :2001 –2004)
• DART light Rail Transit System, Dallas, TX – Bridge Engineer. Involved in super and sub – structure
design for 3 heavy rail bridges. This work for the Dallas Rapid Transit System (DART) will provide
express commuter railroad and light transit service to downtown Dallas, Texas.
• Critical design issue was construct ability and maintaining rail traffic adjacent to new construction.
(Project Duration: 2001-2006)
• MBTA Greenbush Line Project, Braintree, MA – Bridge Engineer. Participated in reviewing
preliminary design plans for heavy rail steel girders. This consists of restoring commuter rail
service on the existing right-of-way through the Greenbush corridor, which is located in the towns
of Scituate, Cohasset, Hingham, Weymouth and Braintree, MA (approximately 18 square miles). (

• East Side Access Project, New York, NY- Civil Engineer Prepared quantity estimates for construction
and relocation of existing utilities and design for new utilities. ( Project Duration: 2001 – 2003

• Single Storey CMU building. Sub-Consultant from STV Inc. Communication Building).
• Darien railway station, elevator shaft and tieback wall design & beam design. (Timber)
• Preparation of drawing and costing for bridge rehabilitation rand central, Little neck, Bell
Boulevard, and clear-view bridge at New York. - Costing and quantity take-off for Millbrooke
bridge Rt 7.
• Structural sign analyses at federal highways (STAAD 111). Sign Inspection and Bridge Inspections.

Senior Structural Building and Civil Engineer, Perunding Delima Sdn. Bhd, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail,
Kuala Lumpur. (August 1995 – August 1999).

• Four block of 16-storey condominium with one tower block for elevator, and 2 levels basement,
swimming pool, and 3 blocks 4 stories high cost apartment. Designs include foundation design
namely bored pile for the high rise, driven pile for the low rise, and raft foundation for the
swimming pool, at Kuala Lumpur.
• Retrofitting and Renovation Bukit Bintang Plaza Shopping Mall in Kuala Lumpur. Works involved in
steel and concrete structures.
• Retrofitting and Renovation Jaya Supermarket, at Petaling Jaya.
• Five blocks of 6-storey office building, with two levels of car parks which attached to each block,
at Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.
• 11-storey of medium cost apartment, 5-storey of low cost apartment, 123,000 gallon elevated
water tank, 80,000 gallon suction tank, sewerage treatment plant tank design with sewer pipe
design, storm water and drainage design, road and pavement design, and earth work design
(grading), at Klang, Selangor
• Container Warehouse, Container Repair Workshop, Truck Repair Workshop, and 4-storey of office
block, at Port Klang, Selangor.
• Structural repair for existing 6-storey car park, which is under reinforced and underestimate load
to the foundation. The work involved are strengthening main beams with steel plates, adding
number of piles and column, introducing new beams, and re-designing the remaining roof
structures, at Kota Kemuning, Selangor.
• Public Amenity Buildings; Community Hall, kinder garden school, and 2-storey mosque, at Shah
Alam, Selangor.
• 4-storey buildings with one basement for Australian Diplomatic residents in Kuala Lumpur, at
Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
• Superintending Officer for 150 acres infrastructure works, supervising, managing and
administrating contract. The designs include; storm water design and management, detention
pond, sediment and erosion control, grading design cut and fill), sewerage design, subdivision,
slope design, road and pavement, and water reticulation for the whole scheme, at Udapec,
Selangor.
• Two blocks of 11-storey high cost apartment and 5-storey office building with shopping mall, at
Seremban, Negri Sembilan.
 • 166 units of double storey link houses in Johor Bahru and 3 bungalows, at Pasir Gudang, Johor.
• Structural steel building for 12-storey and 7-storey hotel in Bangladesh for Pan Pacific hotel. The
design involves seismic and cyclone analysis, at Rangoon, Bangladesh.
• Mah Moh Power plant in Thailand works involved in redesigning the steel members in order to
source for local materials, and new designs for structural supports for mechanical and electrical
instrument, at Hatyai, Thailand.
• 68 units of factory at Nilai , Negri Sembilan.
• 484 acres International Food Park for Bridge Con Properties Bhd. Involved in preliminary designs
and overall planning of infrastructure work such roads, drains, water reticulation, sewerage
system, and subdivision, at Sepang. Selangor.
• Mosque and ancillary building for Perbadanan PutraJaya, at MSC.
• 8 units of medium factory and 2 units electronic factory at Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan.

Graduate and Design Engineer for LP Consultant, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (July 1992 - August 1995)

• Motorola Warehouse extension in Penang, duties include design the extended steel structures,
identify the Mechanical and Electrical services and site constraints so that the new columns and
beams would be adjusted to suit site condition, and establish the contractor scope of works.
• Design reinforced concrete structures for 20 ' x 50 ' pump house with plinth design and raft
foundation design, at Kapar, Klang.
• Proposed memorial park, duties are to design earth cut and fill roads and drain, slope
stabilization, reclaim 2 existing fish ponds using displacement methods, perform road alignment
and setting out, and check platform levels, at Meru, Selangor.
• Warehouse and office building for Aesculup S/B, Reinforced concrete structure and steel structure
design, at Penang.
• 114 units of Double Storey Link House, at Kapar, Klang.
• Resident Engineer for 13-storey condominium with elevated swimming pool. Duties are to
supervise contractor workmanship, monitor progress work at site, revise the construction drawing
to suit site condition when there are discrepancies in drawings, review all the drawings for
construction purpose, check the contract document, construction drawings and specification,
ensuring the contractor comply with those items, and reinforce the health and safety procedures,
at Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
