 GUIDELINES and MECHANICS
1. The 2024 Zarzuela Competitions is open to group performers and may
include singers, actors, musicians, and teacher-directors from Integrated,
Junior, and Senior Public Schools.
2. Interested participants shall encode their necessary information through

as reference for the crafting of the 2024 Zarzuela Competition Proposal.
3. Original compositions inspired by the Zarzuela style with the theme:
“Kabanata ng Kasaysayan: Matatag na Cabanatuan” shall be
submitted on May 2, 2024 until 5:00 in the afternoon for prior judging
purposes. Link for repository of scripts shall be sent through a separate
memorandum.
4. Two (2) sets of judging shall take place. Prior judging on dramatic
elements, specifically on the originality of the script and its quality, and
coherence with the theme with a weight of twenty (20%) percent, shall be
conducted on May 2, 2024. The remaining eighty (80%) percent shall be
credited to the rest of the criteria on the day of actual competition. See
attached criteria for judging.
5. Each performance should NOT EXCEED a specific time limit of 18 to 24
minutes, including provision of staging needs and set design for
manageable undertakings.
6. The maximum allowable number of performers must be thirty (30)
learners.
7. Participants are responsible for their own lapel and shall have their own
assigned technician for technical support to the performances. Live
musical accompaniment and/or pre-recorded tracks are acceptable.
8. The order of performances shall be determined through the drawing of lots
on May 2, 2024 at 4:00 in the afternoon. All participants are directed to
join in the rehearsals. The schedule of the rehearsals shall be issued in a
separate memorandum.
9. Each participating school shall receive a pot money amounting to twenty
thousand pesos (PHP 20,000.00).
10. Cash prizes, certificates, and trophies may be awarded to the top five (5)
performers.
11. The Champion will receive PHP 60,000.00, PHP 50,000.00 for the First
Runner Up, PHP 40,000.00 for the Second Runner Up, PHP 30,000.00
for the Third Runner Up, and PHP 20,000.00 for the Fourth Runner Up,
accordingly.
12. Members of schools’ organizing and working groups and the learner-
artists will receive certificates of recognition, participation, and
appearance.
