1. OBJECTIVE
To define the minimum technical requirements for Low Voltage AC Motors in the Water Steam
Cycle and Balance of Plant.
Deviation requests shall be brought to the attention of the equipment engineer. Agreed deviations to
be recorded in the equipment specification.
2. SCOPE OF APPLICATION
This document defines the requirement for Low Voltage AC Induction Motors in the Water Steam
Cycle and Balance of Plant of the Project EVMII.
2.1. General
Motors have to be of following types:
Motors for direct on line starting with fixed speed to IEC with rated frequency 60Hz and
with rated voltage 460V AC, 60Hz and rated power 250 kW or rated voltage 575V AC, 60Hz
(applicable for ACC Fans only).
Motors supplied by Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to IEC with rated frequency 60Hz and
with rated voltage 460V AC, 60Hz and maximum rated power 315 kW.
Specific requirements for motors in hazardous areas, for example explosive atmospheres, are not part
of this document. These requirements are covered by the corresponding equipment specification.
Motors shall bear NOM marking/labeling
3. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

6.1.18. Nameplate With no less than minimum information called for in IEC 60034-1
For VFD refer to item 0
6.2.1. Insulation Insulation shall be suitable for supply for a Variable Frequency
Drive, which means that supply voltage and current are non-
sinusoidal and contain harmonic and peaks (steep fronts of
voltage dv/dt)
6.2.4. Nameplate With data for VFD application and Direct On Line start,
with not less than a minimum information called for in
IEC 60034-1
6.3.2 Rotation of the terminal box 2 x 180° with terminals remaining in place
for top mounted boxes
6.3.3 Position of terminal box See item 7.1.17Error! Reference source not found.
6.3.5 Material of cable-gland plate non-magnetic metal (to avoid overheating), e.g. aluminium
if applicable, see item 6.3.10
6.3.7 Warning Label for Anti- A prominent warning label shall be provided on the terminal box
condensation heater terminals with heater terminals:
"Warning – circuit may be live”
6.3.8 Anti-condensation heaters If applicable per item 7.1.10 - Heater supply voltage:
supply 127 V AC, 60Hz single-phase
Heater terminals will be energized when motor is at standstill
(controlled at switchgear side)
6.3.9 Auxiliary Terminal Box For temperature detectors if required per item 6.1.16
6.3.10 Size of Main Terminal Box Size of main terminal box shall be suitable to accommodate the
cables as per Table in Item 6.3.11
if the standard box is too small a larger box shall be
provided
