State the functions of the following membrane systems and organelles in the cell:
a. centrioles
b. Chloroplasts
c. Golgi apparatus
d. Mitochondria
e. Ribosomes
f. rough endoplasmic reticulum
g. smooth endoplasmic reticulum
h. Vacuole
Example:
Carbon dioxide
Concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is higher than inside the mesophyll
cell in the leaf. That is why carbon dioxide moves from the atmosphere to the mesophyll
cell through diffusion.
Example:
Water in tissue, water from wet area to drier area.
BIOLOGY Page 1
Red blood cell (RBC)
The shape: biconcave
Adaptation: no nucleus and biconcave increase the surface area to hold or
trap the oxygen, it contains haemoglobin, the red pigment to trap the oxygen.
Phagocyte
Shape: irregular like amoeba
Function: to kill pathogens (bacteria and microorganisms)
Adaptation: contains small nucleus
