Week 6 Journal

This week went so much better than last week. I have worked a good amount of overtime

due to training a new patient services coordinator but it is so worth it! Lisa started last Monday

and is already doing so well. I have never truly trained someone besides working at restaurants

so this is new for me. At the end of her first two weeks I am feeling very confident about her

abilities. This is going to allow me to split my duties with someone, like every other clinic does,

and will alleviate my schedule during the week. right now I work Monday-Friday usually

clocking in between 7 and 8am and clocking out between 4 and 5pm. Now, I am able to work 3

days per week 7-4 and 2 days 10am-7pm.

I also made sure to be intentional with my self care and mental health this week. last

Friday I was very overwhelmed but I was able to self-regulate and still put my best foot forward.

This week I allowed myself more breaks and let people around me know how I was feeling.

The Dunwoody clinic is doing so well right now. Our weekly visits have gone way up

this month. This is due to our clinic gaining 75 new patients in January. We are reaping the

benefits of those new patients now coming 2-3 times per week consistently. Our clinic used to

see about 170 people per week; we are scheduled to see 211 patients next week.

This week there was one patient we had to file an incident report when he came in. this

wasn’t the typical incident report, the patient came in with his home care nurse and was very

confused. He also came in with blood smeared on his face and his nurse said he fell that

morning. He hadn’t been cleaned up from the fall and seemed very disoriented. The PT checked

him for a concussion and was cleared but mentally very different than we usually see him. He

was saying things like “I am in a prison, they keep me trapped. They drive my car without
asking...” It was extremely sad to see and hear. The PT filed the report, as we have to when we

hear certain “red flag” words alleging elder abuse. I called the patient’s out of town daughter to

let her know what was happening and she had to come into town. It was very sad to witness. He

was in the clinic on Friday with a new nurse and was almost his old self. I think he is declining in

general but hopefully we can continue to treat him outpatient.
