VALUE ENGINEERING METHODOLOGY
INTRODUCTION
▪ Industry and government are recognizing the benefits of promoting
working atmosphere where creativity can thrive and be rewarded
▪ Development of new ideas and techniques is resulting in better
products, increased sales, energy saving, a more functional end-
product.
▪ In VM, creativity plays an important part in a project. The VE team is
asked to develop new ideas that go beyond the original concept of
the designer.
▪ Creativity involves a combination of materials, systems, processes
and techniques to accomplish a required function.
▪ It saves cost and adds to the total value of the project
DEFINITION OF CREATIVE THINKING
▪ Is associated with the development of new
thought or idea or concept that has been
thought of before
▪ Is a product of imagination where a new
combination of thought and think are
brought together.
▪ Examples: atom bomb, gun powder, nuclear energy,
etc.
▪ The creative ideas often new and different
from the original designer’s concept
▪ In a project, a good design is made more
cost effective

imagination grow
▪ It helps to have crazy ideas, the should be encouraged and

▪ Habitual block – kebiasaan
▪ Perceptual block – adanya perbedaan antara yang dilihat
dan kenyataan, gagal mengidentifikasi masalah atau
membedakan penyebab dan dampak
▪ Cultural block – tradisi, fantasi dan intuisi adalah sia-sia
▪ Emotional block – ketakutan akan gagal/resiko/kritik
SUGGESTION IN VM
▪ The team members must believe that there can be improvement made
to the project
▪ There is always room for improvement in the design
▪ Be receptive to new ideas
▪ Eliminate the word “ impossible” from your thinking
▪ Develop as many ideas as possible
▪ Look for association of ideas
▪ Do not be afraid to experiment
▪ Encourage all team members to participate
▪ Test your own views in the form of questions
▪ Help your team members work through their ideas
