Meet funny amigurumi baby penguins! These little guys love wearing colorful winter hats
and scarfs. The height of finished toy is 12 cm without hat, and 16 cm with hat.

To crochet baby penguin amigurumi you’ll need:

Alize Cotton Gold yarn of desired colors


Some YarnArt Merino De Luxe for pompom and scarf fringes
2.0 mm crochet hook
Stuffing: fiberfill, poly pellets or glass pellets for weight (optional)
Black beads or safety eyes
Sewing needle

Free crochet pattern
Abbreviations:
sc = single crochet
st = stitch
inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch)
dec = decrease (2 sc together)
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
ch = chain

Note:
Parts are crocheted in a spiral. Stuff only head, body and beak. Mark beginning/end of the
round with a yarn marker, pin or contrast yarn scrap.

Wing (make 2):


Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 3: (sc in the next st, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
Rnd 4: (sc in the next 5 st, inc) repeat 3 times [21]
Rnd 5-12: sc in all 21 st [21]
Fold the wing in half and close the opening by crocheting 10 sc through both layers.

Leg (make 2):


Rnd 1: 11 sc in a magic ring [11]
Rnd 2-4: sc in all 11 st [11]

Fold in half and close the opening by crocheting 5 sc through both layers.

Beak:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: (sc in the next st, inc) repeat 3 times [9]
Rnd 3: (sc in the next 2 st, inc) repeat 3 times [12]
3 sl st
Fasten off. Leave a tail for sewing, cut the yarn.

Eye whites (make 2):

Rnd 21: Crochet 9 sc, start attaching the first wing:

Crochet sc in next 10 st in back loops of the wing (mark with red color on the photo below)
and through the stitches of the previous body round (insert hook through a wing and body
at the same time), further sc in next 16 st across the body, sc in next 10 st across the second
wing and body (the way you made the first wing), sc in next 9 sc of the body [54]

Uncrocheted loops will be visible on the wings.

Rnd 22: see Rnd 21, but use front loops of the wings.
That is, 9 sc across the body, 10 sc across the wing and the body, 16 sc across the body, 10
sc across the second wing and the body, 9 sc across the body [54]

The wings will be flat along the body and won’t turn up.

Rnd 23: sc in all 54 st [54]

Sew the beak to the front in the center between the wings (between Round 13 and 16). Stuff
the beak before sewing.

Sew black beads to the eye whites or insert safety eyes. Attach the eyes at both sides of the
beak (the beads or safety eyes are located between Round 13 and 14).

Rnd 24-34: sc in all 54 st [54]


Make even decreases in each round to close the opening.
Rnd 35: (sc in the next 7 st, dec) repeat 6 times [48]
Rnd 36: (sc in the next 6 st, dec) repeat 6 times [42]
Place yarn marker in the center of the back for symmetry. Fold the body part in half, the
beak should be at the bend.

Crochet some sc till the bend and place the marker.

Legs are joined in the next round in the same way as we made wings.
Rnd 37: sc in the next 3 st, dec, sc in the next 6 st, dec, sc in the next 5 st across the leg and
the body, sc in the next 2 st, dec, sc in the next 2 st, sc in the next 5 st across the second leg
and the body, dec, sc in the next 6 st, dec, sc in the next 3 st [37]

Rnd 38: (sc in the next 3 st, dec) repeat 2 times, sc in the next 4 st, dec, (sc in the next 3 st,
dec) repeat 2 times, sc in the next 4 st, dec, sc in the next 3 st, dec [30]
Stuff tightly. Put some poly pellets in the belly to add some weight.

Rnd 39: (sc in the next 3 st, dec) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 40: (sc in the next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times [18]
Rnd 41: (sc in the next 1 st, dec) repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 42: (dec) repeat 6 times [6]
Close the opening. Fasten off. Hide the tail inside the body.

Belly:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: inc repeat 6 times [12]
Rnd 3: (inc, sc in the next st) repeat 6 times [18]

Winter hat:
See the picture below as example of hat making.
Crochet 22-26 ch + 1 ch for lifting, turn. The exact number of chains depends on the head
size, try it on the penguin before to get to the next step.
Second row: hdc in each stitch till the end, 1 ch for lifting, turn
Third row and all the following further: hdc in each stitch till the end in BACK LOOPS only,
1 ch, turn

Finally, you’ll get a rectangle, the length of which is equal to head circumference. Fold this
rectangle in half and sew as a pipe.

Using sewing needle make stitching through the top of the pipe to gather the edges. Turn
out the hat, decorate it with a pompom.

Scarf:
Make a chain of desired length.
Row 1: starting from second ch from hook: sc in all st, turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, sc in all st.
Fasten off. Make some fringes at the ends of the scarf.

Dress up your amigurumi baby penguin. Your toy is finished! Congrats!
