SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential
 A bachelor’s degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification in TESOL (e.g.
Cambridge DELTA, MA App. Ling, MA TESOL) or a degree plus pre-service
TESOL certificate and current enrolment in and significant progress towards a
relevant postgraduate TESOL qualification.
Last year I completed a Certificate IV in Teaching Conversational English (TESOL in
Intercultural Training Australia (ITA) through Taringa Baptist Church.

 Demonstrate effective teaching skills at a variety of English language proficiency


levels in both General English and English for Academic or Special Purposes.
I teach conversational English twice a week in Taringa Baptist Church. I teach between
6-8 students between the ages of 22-45 years old.

 Demonstrated ability to develop innovative programs and materials appropriate


to a wide range of programs.
When I was teaching in Southport, I changed the afternoon topic because there were no
students attending my class. But when I changed the topic, some students attended my class.

 Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance language teaching and


learning.
When I teach at Taringa Baptist Church, I used my laptop to teach the students about the
Easter story. I did this by letting the students hear about the Easter story while answering
some comprehension questions about what the students saw.

 Evidence of at least five years equivalent full-time experience in teaching in the


designated programs areas for adult learners.
I only have three years experience in teaching ESL in Taringa Baptist Church. When it
comes to learning new things, I am a fast learner.

 Knowledge and experience in the areas of student supervision, arrival


orientation, placement and exit interviews, test and assessment marking and
course administration.
I have knowledge and experience in the areas of student supervision, test & assessment
marking and exit interviews. I did all these while I was working in Southport in the Gold
Coast Language College.

 Evidence of interest and involvement in professional development activities.


Two years ago, when I was teaching at Taringa Baptist Church, the teachers and I got
together to have a training session to see how everybody can improve their lessons. All the
teachers learnt from each other by sharing each other’s experience.

 Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues.


I am able to work collaboratively and flexibly with my colleagues because we all talk to each
other by comparing notes on what things we teach the students. My colleagues and I also
share each other’s experiences.
 High level communication and interpersonal skills.
When I teach English twice a week at Taringa Baptist Church, I teach very high level
conversational English.

 Professional personal presentation


When I teach English in Taringa Baptist Church, which is twice a week, I always try to dress
up in a professional manner. When I speak to the students, I also try and use professional
English.

Desirable
 Experience in curriculum/syllabus design
I have some experience in curriculum / syllabus design because we were taught how to
design the curriculum and the syllabus when I was doing the TESOL course.

 Demonstrated specialist knowledge in the areas teacher training/professional


development for pre-service and in service English teachers, both native and
non-native speakers.
I have no experience in areas of teacher training/professional development for pre-service and
in service English teachers, both native and non-native speakers. Even though I have no
experience I am willing to learn. I am a very fast learner.
