01
COMMUNICATION
Communication is being able and willing to express your ideas
clearly and constructively. This includes all forms of
communication, including verbal (speaking in person), written
(class assignments, email, and social media posts), and non-
verbal (body language and facial expressions).

A successful communicator is also an active listener, engaging

with others with empathy and an open mind. This skill allows
students to participate, ask questions, find understanding, and
build true connections.
02
EMOTIONAL
INTELLIGENCE
Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and
regulate your feelings. This skill improves self-awareness
and allows students to overcome setbacks and negative
emotions that may disrupt learning.

Emotional intelligence also improves social relationships

since students are able to identify emotions in others and
provide an appropriate response.
03
TIME MANAGEMENT
Time management is the ability to plan your time so that
you can accomplish your activities and responsibilities.
Trying to complete tasks last minute can lead to stress and
missing out on other opportunities.

When students manage their time efficiently, they show that

they are dependable, efficient, and can follow through on
their commitments.
04
CREATIVITY
Creativity isn’t just being artistic, it’s a way of
thinking. Students who think creatively find
innovative solutions to complex problems.

They apply their imagination and explore multiple

possibilities. Divergent thinking is another form
of creative thinking. It involves open-ended,
spontaneous ideas and collaboration. Creative
thinking often motivates students to learn
because it can be exciting and student led.
05
CRITICAL THINKING
Critical thinking is the ability to analyze information objectively
and make a judgment or decision. It is purposeful, logical,
balanced, and considers all parts of the problem.

Characteristics of critical thinkers include being open-minded,

having the ability to look for evidence and reasoning, and
recognizing bias (both within themselves and others). Through
critical thinking students can achieve an in-depth
understanding of the world by being engaged and curious
when learning.
06
ADAPTABILITY
Adaptability, or flexibility, allows students to
embrace change and adjust to new circumstances.
Students who are adaptable are better at handling
unexpected challenges.

Overcoming obstacles builds resiliency. Resiliency

gives us the capacity to cope with stress and
adversity. Students who are adaptable realize that
change is always happening, but it doesn’t need to
be a setback from accomplishing your goals.
07
TEAMWORK
Teamwork, or collaboration, is being able to work
with a diverse group of people, delegate roles, and
adjust to different work ethics and attitudes.

When students work in teams, they can brainstorm

ideas and get immediate feedback from their
peers. Collaboration builds consensus, allowing
students to make decisions that work for everyone.
