REPORT ON VIDEO CRITIQUE

RUBRICS.
On the 28TH may 2021,a video played was of a teacher presenting a lesson was watched
and needed to be observed to make an analysis or her presentation in order to make
suggestions and comments as well as evaluations. This took place in B6 class on the subject
Our World Our People[OWOP].
To begin with the lesson coherence ,the teacher reviewed the RPK by linking it to the new
topic , she did that by asking then to mention what then could see after then a look at outside.
She also linked the learning activities logically and sequentially .Perhaps she related the
content to what the learners already know[RPK]. That gave her an outstanding presentation.
Besides, the teacher cited an appropriate example by asking learners to mention what they
live with at their various homes. Examples such as trees, houses etc. were mentioned which I
also observed. The teacher was indeed confident enough to present the lesson. She proceeded
by asking them to at least come out with some importance of the examples being stated
specifically on trees which I observed too. Again I observed when the teacher related the
content to real life situation. She made them got to know that things that surround them is
termed as environment. The content knowledge of the teacher was well elaborated in the
lesson and pupils were also contributing effectively.
Furthermore, she used variety of instructional strategies as far as pedagogy is
concerned .She encouraged think-pair share where views were shared. Opportunities were
provided for learners to participate, she did that by asking the whole class questions.
Moreover, she adjusted strategy to suit the demand by engaging them in brainstorming which
will help the learners to think critically though the time frame given to them was limited.
To proceed, the teacher motivated the learners by giving a round of applause to a learners
who answers correctly and encouraged the wrong answers by saying “well done”. I suggested
she should have used concrete TLMs/TLRs which she did not, though it was very good
lesson delivered.
To add up, the teacher created a conducive classroom environment both physically,
emotionally and affective in the classroom. The teacher also demonstrated effective
classroom interaction, communication skills and interpersonal relationship. The teacher asked
questions where feedbacks were also given and also integrated key points. The teacher made
students to speak loudly for other learners to learn. The teacher provided opportunity for
learners to mention their names before answering questions.
Again, she was not very good at asking question. She used words such as “who can” which
is not advisable to use. The teacher should have summarized the lesson but did not. The
lesson objectives was finally stated which was a good strategy used by the teacher.
The teacher made use of the L1 more than the L2 and the use of L1 is best used at the lower
primary. She was teaching O.W.O.P but drew learners attention to English language that is
subject-verb agreement “trees goes with”.
In conclusion, I suggest that the teacher should use concrete TLRs in presenting her lesson.
Also her facial expression was quite friendly as well as vocal expression. This was a very
good presentation I suggest.
