Folk dances are an important part of the rich history and traditions of the

Filipino people, as they are a lively part of Philippine culture. These dances are

not simply works of art, they are also historical, social, and cultural

representations. Therefore, preserving and promoting Philippine traditional

dances is essential to preserving the cultural heritage of the country. The Pasig

Campus of Arellano University has been leading the way in distributing of

knowledge and experience in a number of areas, including physical education.

The Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) program is one of its offers; its

goal is to provide students with the skills necessary to teach and encourage

physical activities, such as folk dancing.


Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

This chapter of the paper presents the problem and its setting. It includes the

background of the study, the statement of the problem, significance of the study, and

scope and delimitation of the study.

Background of the Study

The study focuses on assessing the readiness of Bachelor of Physical Education


(BPED) students at Arellano University Pasig Campus in the realm of Philippine folk
dance. It aims to examine the students' level of preparedness, competency, and
comprehension in this traditional art form, taking into account various factors such as
training, exposure, and cultural immersion. Understanding the proficiency of future
educators and advocates of Philippine folk dance is important for its sustained
relevance and appreciation in contemporary society. Through this research, we aim to
provide insights into the current state of BPED students' readiness in Philippine folk
dance at Arellano University Pasig Campus, with the goal of informing curriculum
development, teaching approaches, and cultural preservation initiatives both within
the institution and beyond.

Statement of the Problem

The study aimed to determined the Level of Preparedness of BPED - Students in

Philippine Folk Dances at Arellano University Pasig Campus. The study involved

BPED - PE major students from 1st Year up to 4th Year for the School Year 2023 -

2024.

This study aims to answer the following:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents according to:

1.1 Name (Optional);

1.2 Age; and

1.3 Gender?

2. What is the level of preparedness of BPED students in Teaching Philippine fold

dance in terms of:

1.1 Knowledge;

1.2 Skills; and

1.3 Strategies?

3. What are the mostly problems encountered in the preparation of Teaching

Philippine Folk dances?


Students. Students will possess greater awareness and responsibility regarding

the knowledge, skills, and strategies that should be applied in teaching folk dances.

Teachers. With this study, the teachers would be the one who will help the PE

major students to attain the good quality in teaching Philippine folk dances. They

should be an enthusiastic outlook

Administrators. They will assist educators in being well-prepared that is, with

the information, abilities, and techniques needed to instruct Filipino folk dances.

Research Community. The findings of this study can serve as a foundation for

further research in the fields of dance education and cultural studies.

Significance of the Study

The implications of this study are significant to be able to identify the level of

preparedness of BPED - PE major students in terms of teaching Philippine folk dances

at Arellano University Pasig Campus.

Furthermore the following groups can benefit in different ways from this study:

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focus specifically on BPED students at Arellano University Pasig

Campus and their preparedness in teaching and performing Philippine folk dance. The

study will utilize both qualitative and quantitative methods to gather data. However,

limitations such as time constraints, sample size, and external factors may impact the

generalizability of the findings.

The limitation of the study was used of interview and structured questionnaire

to collect data from the respondents. This limits the responses of the respondents. The
respondents was selected through convenient random where only the available ones or

vacant time and willing participants were given a survey questionnaire to answer.

For the purposes of clarity and more accurate interpretation, the following

terms are defined operationally or conceptually:

Dance. An art of expression using a variety of body movements synchronized

with music or other forms of sound.

Dancing. The outburst of people’s feeling. It means of expressing one’s

emotions through movement disciplined by rhythm.
