I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify the different cutting and marking tools.
b. Give the usage/function of each cutting and marking tools.
c. Execute the proper use of marking and cutting tools.
d. Value the importance of cutting and marking tools in the field of dressmaking.

a. Topic: CUTTING AND MARKING TOOLS

c. Materials: manila paper, pilot, bond paper (traditional) PPT

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the

 Unlocking the difficult terms: dressmaking.
“This time I want to introduce to you some
trade terms. These are some difficult terms
that during the discussion of our lesson it will
find hard for us to understand that is why we
need to unlock those terms.

1.Crucial
-Being a final or very important test or
decision.
2. Perforations
-It is a small hole or orw of holes punched
into a material.
3. Zigzag
-Is a line, which has a series of angles in it
like a continuous series of ‘W’.
4. Serrated Edges
-Are blade that have some kind of toothed or
saw like edge ground into the cutting tools,
they’re great for cutting through belts and
repos, fabric and various other textured
materials.
5. Muslin
-A plain-woven cotton fabric made in various
weights.

Cutting tools
-are a crucial aspect of sewing as they
determine the accuracy of your cuts and
ultimately the outcome of your project, there
is a cutting tool designed to suit every sewing
task, it is to remove material from a work
piece in the form of chips

“Miss sitti kindly please read the function of


shear/scissor” (Student read it)

Different types of cutting tools:

1.Scissor/shears
-Are used for cutting various thin materials,
such as paper, cardboard metal foil, cloth,
rope and wire.
(Students are reading it)

2. Pinking shear
-are scissors with saw toothed instead of
straight blades. They produced a zigzag
pattern instead of a straight.

3. Dress making shears


-these scissors have serrated edges that are
ideal for cutting out all types of fabric,
including leather, calico, muslin and denim. (Students are raising their hands)

Marking tools
-are meant to transfer notations or design for
use while quilting or sewing.
“Marking tools also tell you where to cut.”

Tracing wheel
-it is to used to transfer markings from sewing
patterns onto fabric with or without the use of
tracing paper, and can be used to make slotted
perforations.

Tracing paper
-It is to transfer tracing, fine line drawing, and
overlays.

Marking chalk
-Are used for temporary guide markings on
fabric to indicate where it needs to be cut or
left out, shortened or lengthened, or where a
pleat needs to be made.
