This procedure governs the monitoring and measurement of the key criteria as defined by legislation and parent company
requirements.

5. Procedure

1. Identification of operations/activities which require monitoring and measuring
1.1.  The H&S characteristics of activities that require monitoring are
identified through the following means:
 Review legislative and parent company requirements to determine what must
be monitored and measured.
 Objectives and targets: When completing the H&S MS Registers, appropriate SHEQ Manager
Target Measurement Parameters are completed in such a way that they clearly
indicate whether or not the target has been met.
 Non-Conformance Reports – When completing the Corrective Action Section,
measurement of the corrective action must be set to clearly indicate whether or
not the corrective action is adequate.
1.2.  An annual evaluation is conducted to determine whether SABS

1.3.  Documentation of non-conformance is handled in accordance with SP
SHEQ Manager
15 (Non-conformance, Corrective and Preventative Action).
2. Measuring and Monitoring (General)
2.1.  The methods by which a member of staff monitors or measures the
operations or activities of concern are contained in the specific operational Staff
procedures or WSWP’s.
2.2.  If the SHEQ Manager does not perform the measurement and
monitoring, the member of staff responsible for the measuring and monitoring Staff
must ensure that the SHEQ Manager receives these results.
2.3.  If no standards exist, all measurement and monitoring activities shall

be performed in accordance with industry methods.
2.4.  Results are compiled, which are obtained from the various monitoring Clinic

2.5. These reports shall also be evaluated as part of the Management Review Process,

3. Measurement and Monitoring of Performance
3.1.  The above methods shall demonstrate the ability of the management
system to achieve specified objectives and targets and conform to the H & S
policy.

4.1.  The calibration and maintenance of monitoring equipment is handled
