"Tremors of Resilience:
Personal Reflections on
Earthquake Survival"
During the recent earthquake, I
felt terrified as the ground
shook violently. Everyone
around me was screaming and
trying to find safety. Even after
the shaking stopped, the
memory of the previous event
stayed with me, leaving me
anxious. It all happened on the
night of December 2. I was
sleeping at that moment and
later realized that the ground
was shaking. I woke up, and it
scared me. The earthquake had
a magnitude of 7.4, shocking
Surigao del Sur and affecting
our local community in
Polomolok. To deal with the fear
of earthquakes, I make sure I'm
ready before and after one
happens. When it happens, I
stay calm, check on my family,
and follow our plan. Feeling
prepared helps me feel safer
and less worried.

In our world, earthquakes stand out for their
immense power and unpredictability,
serving as a constant reminder of the
Earth's dynamic nature. An earthquake,
caused by the movement of tectonic plates
along fault lines, results in sudden and
powerful tremors on the Earth's surface,
often leading to a range of effects
including ground shaking, landslides,
cracks, avalanches, fires, and even the
formation of tsunamis. Sharing personal
earthquake experiences humanizes the
impact of disasters, expressing survivors'
emotions and strengths, raising awareness,
and building global solidarity, highlighting
the importance of readiness and collective
support in managing such crises.
Earthquakes serve as powerful reminders
of the Earth's ever-changing nature,
impacting communities globally with their
immense force and unpredictability.
Reflecting on recent events, it's evident
that being ready is paramount. We must
educate ourselves and our families on
earthquake safety, devise emergency
plans, and seek help from local authorities.
Let us create a strong community capable
of responding effectively and supporting
each other during times of adversity to
ensure the safety and security of our
communities in the face of earthquakes.
