■ What were the best and worst parts of the Senior Project/Senior Seminar?
- The best part of my Senior Project was getting to sew again. It also allowed me to connect and talk with my
grandma and aunts about the blankets. I liked the in-class work time for Senior Seminar. The worst part of it was
how time-consuming the blankets were initially. I made a mistake on a blanket and had to seam rip the whole
thing and it was very frustrating.
■ List three things you now know after completing your Senior Project.
- To start, I now know I need to watch where I put my hands so I don’t get pricked by pins constantly. I also know
how to better manage my time and be patient with myself when I’m trying new things again after a while.
■ Which aspect of the Senior Project/Senior Seminar stretched you the most? How did you feel about and react to
t his challenge?
- Making time and wanting to do it after a long day was the hardest part. If I hadn’t worked on the blankets after a
hard practice, a long game, or work, I wouldn’t have finished. I didn’t like how it made it harder to do, but I knew I
had to push through and work for even fifteen minutes. Small increments, while slow, still make a world of
difference.
■ How has the Senior Project/Senior Seminar changed you (skills, attitudes, work habits, capabilities, confidence,
p oise, presentation, etc.)?
- It has helped me with time management and patience. It was a slow process to start, but as I became more
comfortable with different types of fabric and sewing machines, it got faster and easier. After finishing a new
blanket, I felt better and more confident in my abilities.
■ What would you do differently if you had to do the whole Senior Project/Senior Seminar process again?
- I’d get started earlier. My goal was to get most of it done during the summer, but with other plans, it didn’t
happen. I would set out specific times each week to work on it (make it more structured).
■ What grade would you give yourself for your Senior Project and what justification do you have for that grade?
- I would give myself an A because I worked hard on this project. It took me longer than I thought it would, so I
had to switch my schedule to accommodate for the extra time. The project was fun and fulfilling, but it also taught
me real lessons. I have more patience, better time management, and know it’s okay to make mistakes. I’m very
proud of myself for finishing the project and I know the blankets will help many children.
