UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

ACTIVITY 7: THE PHYSICAL SELF

1. Choose five characteristics of yourself that you consider beautiful explain why do you
consider it beautiful.

• Confident, brave, loved, giving, accepting—some of my characteristics of myself I

considered beautiful.

• Being confident as a person made me realize that I am capable of doing such things in
my own way. I am confident in expressing my thoughts, my feelings, and my words.
Being vocal about what makes me feel brings me relief. If I am relieved, I am calmed.
If I am calm, I feel beautiful. Having confidence also made me perceive that everyone
has the ability to become a good example to others if they just believe in themselves.
• On the other hand, even if not everyone believes, at least someone will believe in you
and believe that you can do things that you don't think are possible. And above all, as a
person, you have to believe that you can, and that’s what I think is being brave.
• Being loved by some people helped me love myself more. Whenever I feel love, I
appreciate myself more than ever. I felt like I’m on cloud nine; it seemed warm,
comforting, and safe. Indeed, the more I appreciate myself, the more I feel that I am
beautiful.
• I love giving. I love when some people, especially the young, appreciate the things I
give them that might help them survive—foods. Why did I consider this trait of mine
to be beautiful? To see their smiles makes me happy. Wearing a smile and being happy
made me beautiful.
• There are many things I can accept, most likely when someone expresses how they love
and accept me for being me—the way I am. I also like when people criticize me in a
good way; in fact, I accept criticism. Letting me know what is wrong with me would
help me be better.

2. Choose a photo of a person that you consider beautiful and describe what for you is beautiful
about him/her and why.
The picture above is a picture of my great-mom. Mother of four, and a committed and devoted
wife to our father. Whenever she laughs or even smiles, my tiredness goes away. Her efforts
and sacrifices cannot be replaced by any money or anyone. She gave her all just to provide for
our needs, especially the love and support of a mother, which every child would crave. That is
how beautiful I think my mother is.
