DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 9

Crafted for Demonstration Teaching

Pre-service Teacher : Kingdon Van C. Laggui Grade Level : Grade 9

Cooperating Teacher : Frazcel P. Serna Learning Area : Science
School : Lal-lo National High School Date : 02-12-2024
Quarter : Third Index of Mastery :

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard : the development of atomic models that led to the description of the
behavior of electrons within atoms

B. Performance Standard : and illustrating the model of an atom

C. Learning Competency : describe how the Bohr model of the atom improved Rutherford’s
atomic model
: explain how the Quantum Mechanical Model of the atom describes the
energies and positions of the electrons
D. Learning Objectives

After undergoing varied activities within a 55-minute demonstration teaching, the Grade 9 Galileo
and Chronicles students of Lal-lo National High School, with at least an 80 percent index of mastery,
must be able to:

i define and understand the basic structure of an atom

ii identify its three main subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons
iii understand its functions or roles and;
iv illustrate the model of an atom

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic : Atoms

III. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

Methodology Teacher’s Activities Learners’ Activities
A. Everyday Routine
A.1. Good morning class!
Greetings Good morning sir!
How are you?
We’re okay sir.
A.2. Prayer Let’s all stand and feel the presence of
the Lord.

Jazmine, kindly lead the prayer.

Amen!

Amen!

A.3.Checki Who is absent today?

ng of None sir, we’re all present in today’s
Attendance lecture class

Alright, excellent, keep it up!

Alright, before we begin our next topic,

A.4. is there any clarification about our last
Priming topic about Valence electron and Lewis
Activity Dot structure?

None so far sir!

Okay then, we may now proceed with

our new topic.

B. Engage

Okay class, let’s play a jumbled word

What word did you arrange?

ATOM sir!
Correct!
What do you know about an “Atom”?
Anyone?

Can you give an idea that are associated

with the word “Atom”

Atoms are tiny particles that make up

everything around us

Another?

They're the smallest units of matter.

Atoms have protons, neutrons, and

electrons.

Atoms combine to form molecules.

Atoms have a nucleus in the center

where the protons and neutrons are,
and electrons orbit around it.

Atoms can join together to form

compounds.

Excellent!

Those answers of yours are correct.

So, an atom is the basic building block

of matter, consisting of a nucleus
composed of protons and neutrons,
surrounded by a cloud of electrons.
Atoms are incredibly small and are the
fundamental units of chemical elements.

C. Explore

I have here 5 pictures!

And I want you to identify them if it is a

matter or not!
Picture 1 stone
Picture 4 chair
Picture 5 plant

Picture 2 and 3 are not considered as a

matter sir!

Which pictures are considered as a

matter?
Because sunlight and sound does not
occupy space and has no mass sir!

And how about picture 2 and 3?

What is the reason why these two

pictures are not considered as a matter?

Excellent!

In order to be considered as a matter, it

should be occupies space and has mass
and it should be tangible.

D. Explain
We will now proceed in our discussion.

Kindly read the slides Jinky.

It says here that, all matter is made of

atoms, everything the occupies space
and has mass.

Are we made of atoms?

Yes sir!

That’s right, since are body are made of

99 percent hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon
and oxygen atoms

Okay next, again, what are the

subatomic parts of the atom?

Proton, neutron and electron sir.

So, the nucleus is composed of protons
and neutrons, it is located at the center.
And nucleus also hold or contain its
mass.

The yellow ball is indicated as the

protons, and it is a positive charge
particle. It is found within the nucleus.

The orange ball is indicated as the

neutrons, and it is negative charges and
also found within the nucleus together
with protons.
Borh model, indicates all the electrons
that are distributed in the valence shells.

And Lewis Dot Structure only indicates

the valence electrons.

 Democritus
 Dalton
 Thompson
 Rutherford
 Bohr
 And etc.

Let's proceed to the prominent

scientist(s) who have made discoveries
or contributions in the field of atomic
research.

Do you know who are they?

Very good.
Let’s tackle their contribution in the
field of atomic research.

Democritus is the first one to introduced

the atom as the basic building block of
matter.

And he also stated that, the atoms are

tiny solid particles.

Dalton stated that the atom is indivisible,

which means in cannot be separated.
And it cannot be destroyed.
E. Elaborate
(Groupings/by pairs)

Draw or illustrate a model of an atom,

and color it if possible, and indicate its
sign (-,+) charges.

After you illustrating, answer the

following questions:

1 How does the number of protons

in the nucleus determine the
identity of an atom? Can you
provide an example?

2 Explain the concept of atomic

mass. How do protons, neutrons,
and electrons contribute to the
atomic mass of an atom?

3 Explain the significance of the

electron configuration of an
atom. How does the arrangement
of electrons in energy levels
affect the chemical properties of
an element?

IV. EVALUATION

Directions: Read the questions, and situations presented in the following items. Among the options
