FACEBOOK HIGHLIGHTS DANGERS OF USING FACEBOOK

(1) With nearly 2 billion users, Facebook's survival depends on people continuing to use
its service. That's why observers were surprised by an unusual company blog post Friday
that highlighted some of the potential harm of using the social media service.

(2) Titled Hard Questions: Is Spending Time on Social Media Bad for Us? The company
cited studies that suggested some of the possible downsides of using social media. In one
study, people who passively read about others' lives reported feeling worse about
themselves.

(3) One possibility is "negative social comparison" when reading about others online, the
company said, because "people's posts are often more curated and flattering" than how
they are in their real, offline lives.

(4) But there's a potential solution, according to Facebook, which reported $10 billion in
revenue — its highest ever — in the last quarter: Don't be a bystander to others' lives.
Use Facebook more and with friends and family. Facebook users who spend more time
on Facebook — actually post and interact with close friends — experienced more
positive effects, according to a company study conducted with Carnegie Mellon
University.
(5) "Simply broadcasting status updates wasn't enough," the post said. "People had to
interact one-on-one with others in their network." The Facebook post came as some
former top executives have spoken about Facebook's potential negative effects on society
and individuals.

(6) Facebook exploits a "vulnerability in human psychology," Sean Parker, Facebook's

founding president, said recently. To aid in supporting people's well-being while using its
service, the company recently tweaked its News Feed — what people see when they sign
on — to promote friendships and demote what the firm called "clickbait headlines."
(7) Also, it launched a new feature called "Snooze" that lets a user hide a person,
Facebook page or group for 30 days without having to "unfollow." It gives a Facebook
user more control of what he or she sees, the company said.

(8) Do hậu quả nghiêm trọng của đại dịch, tăng trưởng kinh tế đã giảm 6,17% so với
cùng kỳ trong quý 3, dẫn đến tốc độ tăng trưởng so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái chỉ đạt 1,42%
trong chín tháng đầu năm, mức tăng 9 tháng thấp nhất kể từ năm 2000. Theo dự báo, tốc
độ tăng trưởng cả năm chỉ đạt khoảng 3%, thấp hơn nhiều so với mục tiêu 6% mà Quốc
hội đã đề ra.

(9) Các hoạt động kinh tế xã hội của Việt Nam đang phải đối mặt với những thách thức to
lớn và có thể kéo dài trong năm tới. Mọi hoạt động sản xuất kinh doanh, học tập, đời
sống của người lao động hầu hết các ngành đều lâm vào cảnh khó khăn. Nhiều doanh
nghiệp đã phải dừng hoạt động thậm chí phá sản.

(10) Các cơ quan chức năng nên áp dụng chính sách tài khóa mở rộng hơn và sử dụng
nhiều công cụ tài chính sẵn có để hỗ trợ phục hồi kinh tế, bao gồm giảm bớt thủ tục cứng
nhắc về ngân sách để chi ngân sách hiện tại theo kế hoạch, thúc đẩy thực hiện đầu tư
công theo kế hoạch và mở rộng bảo trợ xã hội cho hộ gia đình, lao động chính thức và
phi chính thức.

LIGHT POLLUTION IS TAKING AWAY NIGHT'S DARKNESS

(1) The amount and brightness of light from towns and cities around the world is at such
a high level that it is reducing the darkness of night. Once upon a time, when night-time
fell, we were plunged into darkness. Things are different, and brighter today.

(2) A study published in the journal Science Advances reports that artificial light at night
is increasing in most countries worldwide. Scientists say it grew by 2.2 per cent a year
between 2012 and 2016. The intrusion of artificial light into our night-time is causing us
many problems.

(3) The International Dark-Sky Association says it, "is not only impairing our view of the
universe, it is adversely affecting our environment, our safety, our energy consumption
and our health". Study co-author Franz Holker said artificial light is a threat to our natural
environment.

(4) He said: "Artificial light is an environmental pollutant that threatens nocturnal

animals and affects plants and microorganisms." He added: "[It] has ecological and
evolutionary implications for many organisms from bacteria to mammals, including us
humans, and may reshape entire social ecological systems."

(5) Many environmentalists thought the introduction of LED lights would help the planet.
However, cities are using more LED lights because they are cheaper, which is adding to
the light pollution. Night-time light decreased in 16 countries, including war-torn nations
such as Yemen and Syria.

Topic: HEALTH AND LIFESTYLE

MILLIONS MORE HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
(6) More millions of people around the world have high blood pressure. This news came
earlier this week when the American Heart Association (AHA) changed the numbers at
which high blood pressure starts. For many decades, doctors said high blood pressure
started at a reading of 140 over 90.

(7) The AHA has changed this and said the disease should be treated sooner. It said high
blood pressure now starts at a reading of 130 over 80. Blood pressure happens when your
heart pushes blood around your body too fast. If this pushing is too strong, it can put
stress on your heart and arteries. This can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Normal blood
pressure is less than 120 over 80.

(8) Lúc này hoạt động sản xuất cần mở cửa trở lại và những doanh nghiệp có hồ sơ theo
dõi và kế hoạch rõ ràng cần được tạo điều kiện để tăng cường trách nhiệm hoạt động của
doanh nghiêp và an toàn của người lao động và công tác giám sát sau khi thực hiện. Cần
dở bỏ quy định về làm thêm giờ tối đa để đáp ứng các yêu cầu đặc thù của mô hình sản
xuất và đáp ứng nhu cầu dồn ứ khi nhiều hoạt động được mở lại.

(9) Các mô hình sản xuất ra đời tại Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh và các tỉnh khác là một biện
pháp tháo gỡ tạm thời. Tuy nhiên mô hình này không hiệu quả đối với những nhà máy
lớn sử dụng nhiều lao động như trong lĩnh vực giày dép và may mặc, đồng thời cũng
không bền vững trong dài hạn xét về mặt chi phí, hậu cần, y tế và đạo đức.

(10) Cần phải có một hướng dẫn rõ ràng từ trung ương về vận tải và hậu cần để tất cả các
tỉnh áp dụng đồng bộ. Việc luân chuyển tự do hàng hóa thiết yếu trong nội đô và liên tỉnh
phải được đảm bảo và được tổ chức một cách minh bạch. Nếu chính phủ không cải thiện
những điều kiện này, nguy cơ trước mắt là các công ty sẽ chuyển hoạt động sang các
nước khác. Điều này sẽ ảnh hưởng nặng nề hơn đến sự phục hồi kinh tế.
