Q.1:
Explain the working principle of a six link crank and slotted lever Quick
Return Mechanism as utilised in the shaper with a neat diagram.
These are the major parts of the crank and slotted lever Quick Return
Mechanism
we have link 1 which is fixed, link 3 is slider , It is a bar with a slot for guiding
a slider into it. The slider is connected to the end of the crank and link 2 which
act as a crank and it transfear the rotational motion into linear mostion , link 5
is a connecting rod which is connected to the tool head through a turning pair ,
link 4 is slotted lever acts an oscillatory link whose end is povoted to link 3
and other end is pivoted to link 5 , link 6 is a ram wich reciprocates in the
horizontal direction. The shaper or slotting tool is mounted onto the ram
Q.2:
Determine by Graphical Method:
i) Quick Return Ratio
ii) Stroke Length
Position analysis of the shown six link
crank and slotted lever Quick Return
Mechanism as utilised in the shaper
machines should be based on the
following dimensions :

O4B = 800 mm
BD = 250 mm
O2A = 200 mm
O2O4 = 500 mm
O4D=850 mm
Q.3:
Plot input angle vs stroke length graph for the Whitworth Quick return
apparatus provided. Determine from the graph forward and return angles
and the quick return
ratio.
s
Forward angle = 240
Return angle = 90
QRR= forward angle / return angle =
240/90 = 2.66
