Introductory Message

Welcome to the TLE 6 - Home Economics Self-Learning Module on Types of


Family Resources!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and


reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the

Every family has their own goals and objectives – either to sustain daily
living or be more successful in life. It can be achieved if the family members
will be able to recognize their own resources and realize the importance of
using it wisely.

LESSON

Family resources can be in form of tangible or intangible things that a


family used to support family’s needs. But what is “resources”? Resources
are the things, abilities, or anything that an individual or family have. These
can be in form of properties, products, services or skills. It is an element a
family should have to meet the needs and wants of its members.

TYPES OF FAMILY RESOURCES

1. Human Resources
It refers to the people whose talent, skills and
knowledge are used in government or private
offices, hospitals, schools and other places such
as engineers, teachers, nurses and other workers
like farmers, carpenters and fishermen. Below
are the example of human resources:

 Strength – People need strength to earn income. Strength is


needed in every physical activities at work especially in
farming, fishing and constructing.

 Talents – People have different talents such as drawing,


singing, dancing, graphic designing, and the likes. It is
used to improve family and community life.

 Knowledge and Skills – People who have knowledge and


skills are valuable and an asset human resource. It can be
used in teaching, treating sick, planning, building roads
and other related works that requires expertise.

2. Material Resources
It refers to tangible assets that a family has such
as real estate properties, jewelry, tools and
equipment and cash.
 Real estate properties are the resources of family that
increase in value over a period of time. It can be sold in a
higher value in the future.

 Equipment and Tools are used to perform household chores


and repairs.

 Money or cash is used for the basic needs of the family. It


comes from the salaries, interests or dividends from
cooperatives, and for services to other people such as
manicuring, babysitting and the likes.

3. Non-material Resources

These are the things that people do not


literally have but use them to achieve goals
and objectives. These non-material resources
are:

 Time is gold. It keeps on going which make it a valuable


resource. It is important in fulfilling specific duties at a
period of time. Time should be used wisely as the time lost
cannot be regained.

 Health is the condition in which someone is doing well. It


is also important to do the duties assigned without delay.

 Experience is the time spent in a particular job or work.


The more experience a family member has, the more the
possibility they will get hired or offered a higher salary.
