QUEEN’S COMMONWEALTH ESSAY COMPETITION 2024

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2024 is officially launched! A writing contest that has been around since
1883, it is the oldest and biggest international writing competition for schools. Some of the famous people such as Mr. Lee
Hsien Loong (Singapore's Prime Minister) had won in the past. This year’s competition asks entrants to consider how they
deal with adversity and how community and culture can be used to encourage resilience and hope in a world with a growing
number of global issues.

This is a great opportunity for the students to put their essay writing skills to the test and therefore, the school is making it
compulsory for all students to join the Commonwealth Essay Competition this year. The deadline for submission of essays
to the school is 15 April 2024 (Monday), being an earlier submission date than the actual closing date for administrative
purposes. Your child's/ward’s English teacher will also be guiding them through the whole process and letting them know
what is needed, until their entries are submitted online. We seek your kind support at home to remind your child/ward on
the due date and timely completion of his/her essay, which will surely make a big difference.

CHARACTER TRANSFORMATION (CT)

Our CT team is pleased to share with you the CT programme for this week. We encourage all parents/guardians to partner
with us to build these good values with your child/ward and to celebrate with your child/ward in areas where they have
done well. We need your support and encouragement to help them grow and practice those good values.

YEAR 7 & 8 CT

In this week's Character Transformation (CT) session for Year 7 and 8, the students delved deeper into the theme of "No
Bullying". Through engaging discussions led by their Homeroom Teachers, they explored the fine line between playful
banter and harmful bullying, gaining a deeper understanding of the impact of their words and actions. By analysing various
scenarios and brainstorming solutions, the students actively contributed to fostering a safe and respectful school
environment. Encouraged to reflect on their behaviours, they left the session empowered to make positive choices in the
weeks ahead, reinforcing the importance of kindness and empathy in their interactions with others.

YEAR 9 & 10 CT

For Year 9 and 10, the focus remained on the theme of motivation this week. The students embarked on an interactive
project where they collaborated with their peers and Homeroom Teachers to create motivational videos. Through this
creative endeavour, they aimed to inspire and uplift one another, emphasising the importance of maintaining enthusiasm
and perseverance in their academic pursuits and overall happiness within the school community. By actively participating
in this hands-on activity, the students not only strengthened their own motivation but also fostered a supportive
environment where encouragement and positivity thrive.

Please see the next page for some snapshots of the CT session.

9
YEAR 11 CT

In preparation for their tertiary education journey, the Year 11 students engaged in an informative session led by a
counsellor from Monash University. The talk encompassed valuable insights into pre-university education and the diverse
degree options available at the institution, allowing students to gain a clearer understanding of their academic pathways.
Additionally, the students had the opportunity to actively participate by presenting their questions, facilitating a dynamic
exchange of ideas. Next week, there will be an upcoming educational talk by a representative from Sunway University that
promises further exploration into academic prospects, providing invaluable exposure for students as they navigate their
future aspirations and goals.
