ACTIVITY 9

PARTICIPATING IN SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY

My Aims/Purposes

At the end of the activity, I should be able to:

A. Identify yhe social responsibilities of a teacher;

B. Prepare workable and attainable plans along school and community activities;
C. Develop talents and skills;
D. Assist and prepare materials needed in each program or projects, and
E. Participate in all program and activities.
My Responsibilities

One of the challenges in the 21st century is the development of a global teacher
who exudes CLASS (Commitment, Love for Children, Accountability, Sincerity, and
Sociability). It is on this note that as a student teacher or a would-be educator, you are
given the task to participate in school and community activities that would enhance social
responsiveness and foster rapport and camaraderie.

a. Identify at least five (5) social responsibilities of a teacher.

Social Responsibility Timeline/Objective
1. MENTOR Teachers serve as mentors to students,
especially during their formative years in
school. Early learners and young students
usually mimic their teachers' behavior and
approach to mirror their own. Teachers'
advice is taken seriously, and students
frequently seek guidance and advice from
their teachers. Senior teachers can also
serve as mentors to junior teachers,
passing on practical knowledge gained
through years of experience.
2. WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH Teachers should actively engage and
PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITY collaborate with parents, guardians, and the
larger community. Teachers assist children

in forming their support networks through
open lines of communication, parent-
teacher conferences, and the inclusion of
community members in educational events.
This collaboration contributes to the
development of an integrated strategy for
students' holistic development both in and
out of the classroom.
3. ELECTION Since teachers are impartial, they often help
with the conduct of elections.

4. ALL-ROUND EDUCATOR Assisting in the development of cognitive, social

and emotional skills of a student is an important
role of a teacher. These skills can complement
the subject knowledge and the ability to create
an engaging learning environment, thereby
enhancing the learning experience of the
student. The teacher is able to recognize the
role they play in the overall development of the
student and society, shaping up an individual
that is an asset to society.

b. Work and contribute significant concepts in school and community activities.

c. Prepare the plan of activities and materials needed ahead of time.
d. Research on how to make the activities meaningful.
e. Participate in the tasks and activities of the school and community.

B. Write a short essay about your social experiences in your cooperating school/
community.

My Social Experiences as a Teaching Intern

Humans are social creatures by nature. Feeling connected and sharing experiences is an
essential part of who we are.I am happy and fulfilled to have completed my teaching
internship at Pangalangan NHS. I was able to improve my active listening, planning, and
treatment plan skills during my internship with this school. Direct interactions with these
middle school students were especially beneficial in improving my teaching skills.
Although I found the group sessions challenging, I believe they were beneficial in
developing my confidence as an aspiring teacher. The social interactions I had while
working as a teaching intern significantly influenced how I currently feel about my
responsibility to the larger community. I am aware that in order for children to succeed
academically, I must also help them grow into responsible adults. I make an effort to
promote social values like respect, empathy, and inclusion both inside and outside of the
classroom. I want to equip my students to take an active part in their communities by
addressing societal issues, promoting critical thinking, and facilitating discussions on
topics like diversity and sustainability. My social experiences as a teaching intern helped
me better understand social dynamics outside of the classroom.

My Observation (Reflections and Insight)

1. How did I work and contribute to preparation of school and community activities?
Throughout my teaching internship, I actively participated in and
contributed to the planning of school and community events. I actively
participated in and made contributions to the planning of school and
community events, demonstrating my commitment to fostering community
engagement, providing students with meaningful experiences, and
supporting the overall objective and values of the educational institution.

2. How did I prepare the assigned tasks given to me?

I provided the duties that were entrusted to me in school activities and
programs my undivided attention and careful planning throughout my
teaching internship. I asked for assistance when I needed it throughout my
teaching internship to ensure that I was prepared to contribute effectively to
the school's programs and activities. I also strived for excellence in all that I
did.

3. How did I perform in school and community activities?

I actively participated in a variety of school and community activities when I
went to school and community events. During my teaching internship, I did
well in both school and community activities. I consistently demonstrated
commitment, dependability, good communication, flexibility, and a strong
commitment to teamwork. By actively participating in and supporting these
activities, I hoped to make a significant impact and contribute to the
success of the community and the school.

4. How did I develop my talent and skills for school and community activities?
I make use of my ability to collaborate, communicate,
and innovate with my co-interns to complete our tasks. Professional
growth, teamwork, taking responsibility, embracing difficulties, and
realizing my strengths and areas for improvement have all helped me to
improve as a competent and proficient participant in these activities.

5. What did I learn in school and community activities?
Through activities at school and in the community, I honed my teamwork
and communication skills with the instructors in charge and other teaching
interns.

How did I feel?

Before the activities

I was delighted to be a member of the committee in charge of the activity.
It's rewarding to participate in specific community events, and it's fun for
teachers to participate in a variety of community activities outside of the
classroom.

While doing the activities

• Knowing that I am already participating in the events quenched my excitement.
I'm sure I'll have the chance to learn more about myself, but I'm worried I might
not do the tasks well enough. But despite those fictitious obstacles, I was able to
keep going and finish the task at hand.

After the activities

• Through the activity, I enhanced my communication and social skills.
