 To analyze some reasons for unemployment in the Sophia area.
 To evaluate strategies that the government can put in place in order to reduce unemployment.

Background Overview

The researchers have chosen to investigate the reasons for unemployment and how it affects the average
household income, the researchers are members of the Sophia community and have notice a number of
residents home during working hours, hence wanted to investigate if they are unemployed and the reasons for
the unemployment and what can be done to reduce the percentage of unemployment in the area.

Methodology
4

The researchers have chosen questionnaire and observation as their method of data collection , we believe these
method would be most effective because of the nature of the investigation .
Questionnaire will be distributed and the researchers will observe the activities of the residents to gather
information for the school based assessment . Fifty questionnaire will be distributed to residence to represent
the total populate of the area.

The method of data collection which would be used by the researchers to complete the SBA would be a
questionnaire consisting of (7) YES or NO Multiple choice questions and (3) SA questions based on The
reasons for unemployment in the Sophia areas. The researchers believe to the best of there Knowledge that this
questionnaire will allow all respondents to be anonymous and efficient in responding. While it will not stop
dishonest answers or misinterpreted questions. The questionnaire would be able to allow researchers to grasp a
better understanding and interpretation on the topic of unemployment in the Sophia area. The researchers will
present a series of charts and graphs to display and analyze responses from the questionnaire, the Data
Collection Instruments that was used to complete this (SBA) was the Internet via Google the researchers used
the internet to figure out the reason for unemployment and other person stories on how they were affected by
being unemployed , social Media, and people that lived in the area for a long period of time that witnessed or
experiences such.
1
Limitation

While trying to complete this School Based Assessment (SBA) we encountered several limitation. One of the
issue that we noticed was that the respondents did not answer as effectively or on time as we had expected them
to. This we believe was because we were not able to to adequately explain some of the questions or
communicate with them due to us not having efficient time to do such. We also wanted to give out more
questionnaires but due to many persons were not able to answer them on time because they were busy we did
not get to give out the number of questionnaires we really wanted to. Additionally, the lack of available internet
service resulted in not being able to complete the school based assessment promptly and as soon as it was
needed, our group faced some huge difficulties with analyzing the data presentation due to it being our first time
analyzing this type of data but we did it no matter what.

Recommendation and Implementation

As a group,we would find contentment in offering a few recommendation to the residents of Sophia.

Reducing unemployment requires a multifaceted approach. Governments can invest in education and training
programs, promote entrepreneurship, and implement policies that support job creation. Additionally, fostering a
business-friendly environment and encouraging innovation can stimulate economic growth, leading to more
employment opportunities.

Like one person mentioned on the questionnaire,”there are little or no employment opportunities in the area for
the youths that have just finished school. Additionally, there are barely any schools in the area with highly
skilled teachers”. This could be one of the main reasons why there are unemployed persons in this area”. So
due to this we think it is best that the government really look in to the education and training programs and help
the residents in this community
2
Conclusion

The researchers main focus was in the Sophia community, unemployment has been an issue in this community
because many individuals don’t have no source of income to provide for there household individuals who are
unemployed are not earning no kind of income,as a result of that household income in this community has been
decreasing.

The government has opened up so many opportunities for the residents of Sophia. It requires a lot of
consistency and dedication to fix a problem like this. Such as helping with schools and giving the students more
opportunities for when they are finished with school like work studies, and for the ones that did not get to finish
school jobs that does not require any CXC subjects.
