In GFD 312-ADVANCED GARMENTS AND DESIGNING

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. give the different traditional Filipino costumes;
2. identify the different traditional Filipino costumes;and
3. value the importance of traditional Filipino costumes nowadays.

The teacher will ask some questions about the previous topic:

Mechanics:
The teacher will divide the class into two groups, each group will be
given sample pictures of different traditional costumes of different countries
and each member of the group will identify what country those costumes
represents. The first group to finish will be declared as winners.

Traditional Filipino Costume

 Filipinia/Mestiza Dress
-it is a formal dress made of
expensive lace and fabric adorned
with embroideries. It is sophisticated
version of the national costume, the
baro at saya.

1. Baro
-also known as camisa. It is a short PowerPoint
sleeve and collarless. It is the Presentation Discussion
national costume of Filipino women.

2. Kimona
-is a translucent often embroidered
blouse with extended sleeve worn
over an inner garment.

3. Saya/Tapis
- saya is a loose skirt worn under the
tapis while tapis is a wrapped
around the woman’s body and tied
at the waist. Tapis

is also known as patadyong.

4.Panuelo
-also known alampay. It is a square
cloth folded triangularly and worn
like a great ruffle or collar.

5. Naguas
-refers to petticoat decorated eyelet
patterns visible underneath the saya.
6. Mestiza/Butterfly Sleeve
-this sleeve stand up several inches
above the shoulders and ironed flat
against the arms.

7. Angel’s Wing Sleeve
