VIII. METHODOLOGY
VIII.1. PREFABRICATION
The prefabrication works shall be performed in accordance with the approved
drawings and CONTRACTOR’s specifications and standards. Fabrication cannot
start before review/acceptance of the corresponding drawings. All shop details shall
be in strict accordance with Design Drawings, and any proposed deviations shall be
approved by the CONTRACTOR.
Fabricated pieces shall be shop assembled in the most advanced state of pre-
assembly into as large and complete units as can be transported and erected. Shop
assembling trials shall be performed as required.
Platforms, stairways and handrails shall be separately shop assembled in the largest
unit suitable for handling, shipping transportation and erection. All fabricated frames
shall be suitably braced to prevent overstress and distortion during transit.
Sub-CONTRACTOR shall prepare and take full responsibility for the accuracy of all
shop detail drawings.
VIII.2. PRE-ERECTION
Before erection works start, the concrete surfaces of the foundations shall be
scabbled and cleaned.
Surveyors shall establish permanent benchmarks necessary for the accurate
erection of structural steel. Check the coordinates and levels of concrete and
locations of anchor bolts and similar items before erection proceeds. The location of

all Existing services above and below ground shall be identified and all reasonable
precautions taken to prevent damage to them.
All erection plant and equipment shall be suitable and of sufficient capacity to safely
complete erection of the steelwork to the contract schedule. The Sub-
CONTRACTOR shall maintain the working surfaces of the site free from standing
water and remove water from foundations. The Sub-CONTRACTOR shall ensure
that the load spread under cranes and lifting plant is commensurate with the strength
of firm standing. The CONTRACTOR shall inspect the prepared foundations and
holding down bolts for position and level not less than seven days before erection of
steelwork starts.
VIII.4. ERECTION
VIII.4.1. GENERAL
After rough visual check inspection and if no major damage was recorded or to be
repaired due to mishandling or careless storage, the supervisor and his team will
proceed with installing of column on foundation.
Supervisor shall at the first time mark the axis on the base frame of column and
foundation in order to fix the adequate orientation of the warehouse.
Besides, any rigging operation or any other works which will be done at height will be
performed using manlift or scaffolding with sufficient working height.
VIII.4.2. METHOD OF ERECTION
For the erection of structural pieces, a crane 25T will be used to lift the structural
post and beam, erection sequence shall follow the following general steps:

1) Post and beam erection will be performed one by one in order to ensure the
installation in the correct position, the lifting will be performed in the appropriate
area according to the drawing and installation plan, once the post is maintained
on its final position, the carpenter will use a scaffold or a man-lift to put the nuts
on the anchor bolts and ensure a partial torquing in order to allow the erection of
the beams and other post till we finish all the installation. Surveyor will confirm
the position and elevation of the structure and final tightening will be performed
according to the standard values.
2) Rafter parts will be assembled on the ground into connection one by one, once
the first rafter is correctly assembled, it will be lifted and maintained on its final
position in top of column, carpenter install then bolts of rafter through column
connection and tighten to snug position, The crane has to keep holding the rafter
in position until the completion of final tightening.
3) Purlins will be placed and fixed into final position on the top of two successive
rafters by the means of flange cleat connection according to specific size and
shapes in design drawings.
4) Bracing will be lifted, placed, and maintained in position using appropriate lifting
equipment, so that the structure will not be time overloaded, unstable, or unsafe.
Wall bracings shall be adjusted after the columns are plumbed, and roof bracing
adjusted when rafters are in a straight line.
5) After completing the erection of main frames, the final check of alignment
(plumbing and straightness) for the all columns and rafters of whole building shall
be done.
6) After checking the alignment and square-ness, tighten again anchor bolts,
column connection, girts bolts, and eave strut bolts to required tension by torque
wrench.
7) Cladding, siding and roofing shall be single skin carbon steel hot dip
galvanized coated with a solid bonded barrier coat to both sides.
Cladding fastener numbers and spacing shall be fixed with not less than 3
fasteners per meter at each supporting purlin/girt using stainless steel weathered
drive screws with plastic cup washer matching cladding color.
VIII.5. GROUTING
Grouting shall not be carried out under column base plates until a sufficient portion
of the structure has been aligned, levelled, plumbed and adequately braced.
Immediately before grouting, the space under the base plates shall be clean and free
of all extraneous matter. No voids between bearing surfaces and bases or plates
shall remain after grouting is completed. Manufacturer’s instructions shall be
followed to ensure an effective seal from external moisture is achieved around the
perimeter of the base plate and at the point of intersection between grout and base
plate. The grout material shall not exceed the level of the bearing surface of the base
plate and shall slope away from the base plate. Exposed grout surfaces shall be
finished, installed materials protected and allowed to cure in strict compliance with
the manufacturer’s instructions. Retighten anchor bolts as required and necessary
when grout has achieved required strength.
