TITLE:- MOISTURE TESTER

INSTRUCTIONS :
1. Put the specimen sand 7Gms[until it matches the mark on weighing balance& stem
of pan]. Weight the sample accurately by standard balance for Moister Testing.
2. Transfer the sand sample in the cap of the moisture tester.
3. Take one spoons of absorbent compound (Calcium carbide).
4. Transfer into the body of the moisture tester.
5. Hold the body horizontally and place the cap in position.
6. Bring the clamp in position and tighten the cap with screw. Shake the instrument
vigorously.
7. This ensure sample and the absorbent compound is mixed. Immediately the pointer
of the gauge moves.
8. Keep the instrument in position. Observe the reading when pointer stops further
movements.
9. This will give the % of moisture in the sample directly.
10. Note the reading.

Precaution:-
1. Clean the instrument after use
2. Store Calcium carbide in a air tight tin to avoid reaction with water & air.
3. Need of calibration as per schedule.

INSTRUCTIONS :
1. Take 10grams of prepared sand = W1
2. Put the weighted sand on hot plate/Rapid drier at 1000C for 7-10 minutes on hot
plate to make it dry. [For drying the sand on Rapid Drier, First switch on the rapid
drier. Then set the time for 15 minutes by rotating the timer clockwise direction till
the sand gets dried completely.Do not rotate the timer anti clock direction]
3. Allow the sand to cool down naturally.
4. Weigh the sand=W2
5. Then calculate the moisture % in the sand by using following formula

MOISTURE %=(W1-W2)X100
W1
