1. Objective : Objective of this SOP is to lay down a procedure for manufacturing of IVAREZ
ISRO RESIN.
2. Scope : This SOP is applicable for procedure for manufacturing of IVAREZ ISRO
RESIN material in production department in IVP Limited.
3. Responsibilit : Manager – Production, Executive – Production,
y Officer – Production.
4. References : In-House.
5. Equipment’/ : Reactor, Blender.

7. Precaution :
7.1 Raw material availability on shop floor.
7.2 Vacuum pump operates properly.
7.3 Reactor /charging pot is empty and clean properly before Charging.
7.4 Bottom valve of reactor / charging pot closed properly.
7.5 Check transfer line from reactor to blender.
7.6 Check load cell of charging pot is working properly.
7.7 Stirrer operates properly.
7.8 Check all tank farm pumps are working properly
7.9 Check all utilities like cooling tower, steam boiler, nitrogen plant, chiller and air
compressor are working properly.
7.10 Wear Safety PPE during operation. (Helmet, hand gloves, safety goggles & shoes)
7.11 Ensure that all the manual supply and return valves are open.

8.1 Procedure for IVAREZ ISRO Resin:
8.1.1 FORMULATION:

8.1.2 Keep given amount of solid phenol drums in oven with 750 C set point for melting
for 8 hrs.
Check and record temperature of oven after every one hours.
a) Ensure XV-1068, XV-1070, XV-1067, XV-1083, XV-1075, XV-1077A, XV-
1077B, XV-1074, XV-1073, XV-1071, XV-1072, XV-1076A, XV-1086,
b) PCV-106B, XV-1078, HV-110, XV-130, XV-1079 and TCV-108 are closed.
8.1.3 Take out phenol drums from oven and ensure that the phenol melted completely
then check the clarity of phenol and record in log sheet
8.1.4 Now, open XV1083, Close PCV106B and start vacuum pump XMR4_VACUUM
to take vacuum up to -0.8 bar into reactor.
8.1.5 Charge given quantity of molten phenol into reactor under vacuum.
8.1.6 Start the stirrer XMR4 after charging minimum stirrable volume of 1000 Kgs,
Once given qty. of phenol charging completed, Stop vacuum pump XMR4 _
VACUUM and open PCV106B to release vacuum.

8.1.7 Charging of formaldehyde from tank form, (1) If select T-7003
8.1.8 Open XV1059, XV130, XV_721 and XV_725, start pump P-711 to take given
amount of formalin 37% from tank farm to R-4 charging pot through PLC.
8.1.9 If select T-7004 open XV1059, XV130, XV_722, and XV_725, start pump P-711
to take given amount of formalin 37% from tank farm to R-4 charging pot through
PLC.
8.1.10 Now open XV-1068, HV-110 and charge formalin from charging pot to reactor.
Close PCV106B and start vacuum pump XMR4_VACUUM to take vacuum up to -
0.5 bar into reactor & charge 50% caustic solution (Caustic water ratio- 1:1) into
reactor, then Stop vacuum pump XMR4 _ VACUUM and open PCV106B to
release vacuum
8.1.11 Let reaction mass to mix well for 10 mins and take out sample for checking pH it
shall be 8.3 to 8.7
8.2 Sensible Heating Phase:
8.2.1 Confirm XV 1083 & PCV 106B open then open condensate valve XV-1076A,
bottom steam supply inlet XV-1072 and Start heating the reactor by opening TCV-
108 and give set point at 520 C with temperature ramp rate 0.50 C/min.
8.2.2 At 520 C exotherm will start. Wait until temperature of the reaction mass reaches to
600 C.
8.2.3 After 600 C if rate of temperature rise is at 0.3 C/min then open XV-1077A and
apply cooling through bottom coil and if rate of temperature rise is at 0.6 C/min
then open XV-1077B and apply cooling through both top & bottom coils. If
temperature is getting down by 1 C/min then stop cooling.
8.2.4 If temperature is not controlled with both coil cooling then apply vacuum in total

reflux.
8.2.5 Let reaction mass temperature to rise with the rate of 0.20 C/min up to 82 C and
maintain the temperature at 82-840 C for 5 hrs.
8.3 Sample Checking Phase:
8.3.1 While maintaining at 840 C, check sample droplets test after every 1 hours
Once droplet test is okay (visual testing) then go for cloud point testing after every
5 mins, base on earlier result.
8.3.2 If cloud point (cloud point: 24.5-25.50C) test is ok, then start cooling to both top
and bottom coil and start vacuum pump XMR4_VACUUM also to apply vacuum
simultaneously.
8.3.3 As soon as temperature of reaction mass drops to 600 C then release vacuum by
stopping vacuum pump XMR4_VACUUM and now allow reaction mass
temperature to cool down up to 450 C.
8.3.4 Now apply vacuum (up to -400 mbar) to reactor by starting vacuum pump
XMR4_VACUUM and add acetic acid at 450 C. Then stop vacuum pump
XMR4_VACUUM.
8.3.5 Mix well for 15 min and take sample for PH test (PH=6.5-7.5).
8.3.6 If PH is not within in range then inform to senior authority.
8.4 8.4.1
Settling Phase:
8.4.1 If PH test is ok, then stop reactor stirrer and allow reaction mass for phase
separation for 10 hrs. under cooling. Keep stirrer out of service mode.
8.5 8.4.2
Layer Separation Phase:
8.5.1 After completion of 10 hrs, open reactor manhole and check phase separation
visually.

8.5.2 Ensure R4 blender is clean and empty.
8.5.3 Ensure R4 charging pot bottom valve XV107, nitrogen valve XV1081, R4 reactor
bottom valve XV1075, vent valve XV1080 and blender bottom valve XV1082 are
closed.
8.5.4 Start vacuum pump XMR4_VACUUM and take vacuum in R4 blender and collect
upper layer water (by confirming visually) of reaction mass with flexible hose
through manhole into R4 blender and stop vacuum pump and release vacuum by
opening vent valve XV1080.
8.5.5 Now remove flexible hose, close manhole and remove stirrer from out of service
and start R4 reactor stirrer XMR4.
8.6 8.4.1
Vacuum Dehydration Phase:
Keep distillate valve XV1086 open and reflux valve XV1083 close, then close
8.6.1 PCV106B and start vacuum pump XMR4_VACUUM to take vacuum up to -0.93
bar into reactor
8.6.2 After achieving desire vacuum, open condensate valve XV1076A and bottom coil
valve XV1072, then start heating with steam by giving 550C set point to TCV108.
Temperature should not cross 560C.
8.7 8.4.2
Sample Checking Phase:
8.7.1 Continue vacuum dehydration and maintain above parameter for 1 hr. and check
sample for RI.
8.7.2 Continue vacuum dehydration till desire RI achieve (RI=1.5710 to 1.5720).
8.7.3 Once RI achieve within given range, then close steam control valve TCV108,
bottom coil steam valve XV1072 and condensate valve XV1076A.

8.8.1 Then open XV1073, XV1074, XV1077A and XV1077B to start cooling upto temp
350C.
8.8.2 Close distillate XV1086 and open reflux valve XV1083 to keep the system in total
reflux position.
8.8.3 Now Close PCV106B and start vacuum pump XMR4_VACUUM to take vacuum
(max. -0.5 bar) into reactor.
8.8.4 After achieving desire vacuum, charge given quantity spirit into reactor through
flexible hose.
8.8.5 After 30 mins. of mixing, give sample for viscosity check.(Viscosity: 50 to 51 Sec
in B4 CUP at 300C)
If desire viscosity not achieve, then add extra spirit.
8.9 8.4.4
Discharge for Packing:
8.9.1 Once viscosity achieve within range, stop agitator XMR4 and open reactor bottom
valve XV1075.
8.9.2 Now fill the batch in 50 kg pack through electronic weighing balance.
8.9.3 Close reactor bottom valve XV1075 after batch filling.
