What does an Op-Amp do?
• – Addition/Subtraction
• – Integration/Differentiation
• – Amplification

Inverting Mode
• Non-Inverting input is grounded
• Signal is applied to the inverting input
• Output is 180° out of phase with input

1/31/2019 Operational Amplifiers 6

Non-Inverting Mode
• Inverting Input is grounded
• Signal is applied to the non-inverting input
• Output is in phase with the input

Differential Input Mode
• Both input terminals are used
• If input signals are 180° out of phase
• Output is in phase with non-inverting input

Summing Amplifiers
A summing amplifier is an inverted OP-amp that can accept two
or more inputs. The output voltage of a summing amplifier is
proportional to the negative of sum of input voltages.
