System compatibility to soil conditions to Diaphragm Walls
be checked after receipt of soil report

34
Shoring systems - Soil Nailing

Consists of reinforcing the soil mass by introducing a series of thin elements called ‘ nail’ to resist
tension, bending and shear forces
Reinforcing elements are made of round cross section steel bars called Nails.

35
Shoring systems- Soldier/H- Pile

Soldier piles or soldier beams using H beam installed in predrilled holes around the periphery of an
excavation.
These piles in boreholes shall be backfilled in place with find sand
Lagging is the timber shall be placed horizontally between the soldier piles to retain the soil behind the
excavated area.
The spacing between the two solider piles shall be generally 1.20m- 1.5m c/c

36
Shoring systems- Sheet Pile

Long structural sections available in various shapes U type, Z type, flat web type, pan type etc with
a vertical interlocking system that creates a continuous wall.

Two types of sheet piles i) Hot rolled and ii) cold formed.

37
Shoring systems-Contiguous Pile

Contiguous pile walls are constructed with small gaps between adjacent piles.
The use of low-cost augers and, more particularly MAIT (Hydraulic rigs), TMR
to drill successive unconnected piles provides an economical wall.

38
Shoring systems- Secant Pile

Secant pile walls, are formed by constructing intersecting reinforced concrete

piles.
Primary piles are installed first with secondary piles constructed in between
primary piles once the latter gain sufficient strength.
Pile overlap is typically in the order of 3 inches (8 cm)
