An art from India

• Rangoli is an Indian traditional art.

• It is the symbol to welcome Lakshmi.

• The Indian scriptures and puranas can be attributed for the emergence of
this creative rangoli art.

• It is an floor art.

• Rangoli patterns are created by using materials such as colored rice, dry
flour, colored sand or flower petals.
Origin
• Rangoli's origin is traced to a legend recorded in Chitralakshana-the
earliest Indian treatise on painting.

• When the son of king's high priest died, it led to widespread dispair in the
kingdom .

• People of the kingdom prayed to Brahma Lord of the universe. Brahma

asked the king to paint the likeness of the boy so that Brahma could
breath life into him again.

• It is believed that this was how the first Rangoli painting was made.
Rangoli as creative expression

• Rangoli is a Sanskrit word, and it means the expression of artistic vision

through the joyful use of colour or design in colours.

• In ancient times, beautiful rangoli patterns and designs were made on

the entrances of Indian homes for beautifying them and welcoming the
guests.
• Besides a creative expression of art, they were also considered a symbol of
good-luck. Ours is the culture of, “Athiti Devo Bhava” means “Guest is God”.

• So Rangoli is better way to express cultural mannerism and hospitality.
