The Problem
House chores can be tedious and time-consuming tasks. It
has been reported that those who regularly clean their own
home are doing so during 6% of their whole week, about 10
hours(CBNC). This might not seem like much but it's really a
large chunk of the day.
"But is cleaning really a problem?"
• House cleaning takes about 10 hours of the
average adult's week
• 95% of the people we surveyed said that if
the option for a product that would help with
different household cleaning chores, they
would use it.
Current products on the market
And some flaws they have.
• Roomba's – they only clean the floor and cost from a range of $250 – $900.
• Household Vacuum – They aren't hands free and require constant human
interaction to use.
• Swifter – Requires manual labor to clean a floor.
• HOBOT Series – Only cleans windows and must be plugged in at all times.
Our Solution: The Surf-
Clean
The product that does the dirty work for you.

• Fits within a 7" by 7" square

• Automated
• Cordless
• Uses sensors to detect edges and walls
• Cleans using a refillable spray and two
cloth spinners at the bottom
• Moves on four tiny wheels
• Has a small LCD and buttons for a UI

Our Marketing Pitch
• Multi-Surface
• Rechargeable, long lasting batteries
• Can use various cleaning solutions
• Easily maintainable
• Cost is estimated to be around $150
• Our targets are house owners/renters
Conclusion
• We learned a lot about the application of the engineering design process and
what goes into creating an actual functioning product.
• We about marketing the research that goes into it and how it applies to real
world products.
• We learned about how patents can affect the design you're going for and can
force you change your design to make sure you're not infringing on any
patents.
• We had no assistance from mentors or helpers.
• Other products on the market are not suited for the cleaning that ours can
handle.
