THE STAR
POWER WITHIN
Total Time Allotment: 1.5 hour
Materials Needed: video clip,
laptop, projector, and envelope
containing strips of paper with
different skills of the suggested
professions
I. OBJECTIVES

 At the end of this module, the learners are


expected to:

a. determine the knowledge and skills needed in


the different professions     and  life choices;
b. assess the knowledge and skills needed in the
   preferred profession; and
c. value the importance of knowledge and skills
   required in the profession.
II. MOTIVATION

III. MAIN ACTIVITY

     Title: Shooting Stars

Directions:
Call students randomly and let
them identify and paste five (5)
skills under a particular
profession posted on the board.

What help you in identifying the
skills of a particular profession?
Is there a particular profession cited
or not cited that interests you? What
is it? Support your choice.
• Each of us possesses different skills. Each
of us vary in strengths and weaknesses
that we possess. This makes us unique.
Because we are unique, we differ in the
way we do things.
• Different professions require different
skill sets and abilities.
Skills are divided
according to the
following categories
(Santa Maria, 2006):
People Skills – work
with, help, entertain,
service or influence the
actions or thinking of
people
Data Skills – handle
details, facts, numbers,
records or files in a
quick and accurate way
Thing Skills – operate,
maintain or build machinery, or
regulate or process equipment;
understand and work with
physical, chemical or biological
functions
Idea Skills  – solve
abstract problems and
express thoughts or
feelings in a creative or
ingenious way
 
Skills can also be
categorized as employability
skills or skills you need for
a job. These are:
Communication Skills
 – employers look for
people who
communicate well both
verbally & in writing
 
Critical Thinking Skills
 – the ability to solve
problems and make
decisions
 
Personal Development
Skills  – having right
attitude towards work & the
organization you work for.
Employers look for people
who are keen to develop &
learn.
Leadership Skills  –
Leadership is the ability
to influence others
toward the achievement
of goal.
 
Numeracy or Number
Skills  – involves
understanding of
numerical data, statistics
& graphs.
 
Information
Technology Skills  –
familiar with using a
computer and other
technology.
 
V. APPLICATION
Title: Star Power

Procedure: Group yourselves into


two. Give each group a tableau topic
secretly. As the group presents, the
other group will guess what
profession is being performed.The
group with the highest correct
answers wins.
Processing Questions:

1. Did the groups effectively show the


knowledge and skills of the
professionals they are portraying?
Why or why not?
2. Did the characters manifest
positive attitude?
VII. Evaluation
Title: Star Qualities

Directions: Rate yourself with honesty. Your


ratings will give direction for your own self-
improvement. Put a check on each column
either  Like Me or Not Like Me. The Liker
scale legend below will serve as your guide.
Remember: Don’t compare yourself with your
classmates. Every individual is unique. Each
has his/her own strength and weaknesses.

VIII.ASSIGNMENT

Title: Shine Like a Star

Interview professionals of their success


stories in the community on how they were
able to develop the knowledge and skills
needed in their chosen profession.  Have
each group take a video during the
interview and upload it on Facebook with
the hashtag #shinelikestar.
