Skeletal system
• skeletal system. The framework of the body, consisting of bones and
other connective tissues, which protects and supports
the body tissues and internal organs.
• FACT
• The human skeleton contains 206 bones, six of which are the tiny
bones of the middle ear (three in each ear) that function in hearing.
FUNCTION OF SKELETAL
SYSTEM
• The skeletal system is the body system
composed of bones and cartilage and performs
the following critical functions for the human
body: supports the body. facilitates movement.
protects internal organs.and stores minerals.
• Seals are the only mammals that don’t have
bones.
• Without our bones we would be like seals,we
could not walk on our feet.
How does the skeletal
system store minerals?

• the bones themselves are made

of minerals and act as a mineral store for
calcium and phosphorous, which can be
given up if the body requires
the minerals for other functions.
Function of calcium in the bones
• Calcium Is Needed for Strong Bones. Calcium is the most common
mineral in the body, primarily found in bones and teeth. It is essential
for maintaining the bone mass necessary to support the skeleton.
The body is also constantly using calcium in muscle and nerve
functions as well as to carry out functions in the heart.
Facts about skeletal sysem

• The body has two types of bones:the first type is the hard
bone and it is called cortical bone. The second type,
trabecular bone, is soft and spongy.
• Babies are born with 300 bones.
• The smallest bone in our body is in our ear.
• The longest bone in your body is in your leg.
