Measures of Position for Ungrouped Data

QUARTILE
DECILE
PERCENTILE
QUARTILE
- divides a distribution into four equal parts.
- is of the form:
=
Qi = i (n+1)
Where: 4
i = is the position that you
are to find
n = is the total number of
data in a distribution
STEPS:

1. Arrange the given data in increasing

order.
2. Determine the total number of data.

3. Use the formula given.

Example:
Given the following data of the
scores in mathematics quiz:
15, 11 ,10 ,19 ,18 ,8 ,16 ,14 , & 16

Find the 3rd quartile.

DECILE Qi = i (n+1)
4
- divides a distribution into
ten equal parts.
- is of the form:
=
Di = i (n+1)
Where: 10
i = is the position that you
are to find
n = is the total number of
data in a distribution
Example:
Given the following data of the
scores in mathematics quiz:
15, 11 ,10 ,19 ,18 ,8 ,16 ,14 , & 16

Find the 5th decile.

PERCENTILE
- divides a distribution into one hundred equal
parts.
- is of the form:
= Pi = i (n+1)
Where: 100
i = is the position that you
are to find
n = is the total number of
data in a distribution
Example:
Given the following data of the
scores in mathematics quiz:
15, 11 ,10 ,19 ,18 ,8 ,16 ,14 , & 16
 Find the 20th percentile.
APPLICATION:

Anthony is a secretary in one big

company in Cagayan de Oro City.
His salary is in the 7th decile. Should
Anthony be glad about his salary or
