Section B1 Section C1 Section D1

I used the classes I taught at Coastal as the platform for my learning dashboard. I focused on all sections
together with statistical data as Moodle’s learning analytics does not offer this type of metric. Moodle’s
learning analytics are not set up in dashboard mode and the predictors, targets, insights, notifications, and
actions are offered as models. They are also not enabled by default and must be added by the administrator.

One such model currently offered is “Students at Risk of Dropping Out” and this is what gave me the idea to
use a statistical dashboard for incoming freshmen taking the UNIV-110B course as a precursor to predicting
those that may be in jeopardy. The model must have historical data and the use of high school grade point
average, major, and use of technology can assist in building this data.

I chose a non-traditional approach to my mockup by adding some design to it as Moodle is very plain. I
created my charts in Word and Excel using the charts option in Word. My first chart is a line graph of high
school GPA by business major and gives the percentage of students scoring either a 4.0 or higher, 3.0 to 3.99,
and 2.75 to 2.99 high school GPA. My next chart is a 3-D column that shows the number of students by major;
and lastly, my pie chart shows the percentage of students using certain types of technology. All three charts are
helpful in determining if students are at-risk and this information could be fed into the Moodle model.
