Research is defined as
 a scientific way of providing solutions to problems
 a way of inquiry intended to gain knowledge and
understanding of certain unknown facts.
 a systematic data gathering procedure to explain
contradicting data or subject matter.
 a scientific method of probing to be able to answer
questions and resolve difficulties
 A way of analyzing scientific data to create or produce
explanations and results to malfunctions or errors or
breakdowns
Research is done to :
 find answers to problems which were maybe
partially solved or not by existing information,
material or facts.
 improve existing methods, techniques and
operations
 develop new products or services
 discover innovative devices, systems and
procedures, ways and means
 to promote health and prolong life
Research is important:
 to provide basis for decision making in
business and industry, education and
government, and other undertakings
 to develop valid generalization using science
 to expand and verify existing knowledge
 to find answers to queries by means of
scientific methods
