MEDICAL

INSTRUMENTS
BED
Is used for lying down and sleeping on of the patient
A BOX OF TISSUES
Is used for many things : blowing your nose, wiping
away the tears, for wiping babies’ bottom, etc.
STETHOSCOPE
is used for listening to heart sounds or pulse the
heartbeat.
OTOSCOPE
is used for examining the ear and for seeing the tympanic
membrane.
OPHTHALMOSCOPE
is an instrument with a concave mirror and a lens for
examining the interior of the eye through the pupil.
FIXATION BANDAGE / BANDAGE (UK) /
GAUZE (US)
Is used for tied around an injury or a part of
someone’s body that has been hurt
STICKING PLASTER (UK) / BAND-AIDS (US)
Is used for covering and protecting a cut in the
skin
MEDICAL SCISSORS
they have different types and sizes are used
for cutting different things
SCALPEL BLADES
are used for cutting. They are packaged
individually and attached to a handle.
STERIL GLOVES
are used for doing any sterile procedure and by all the staff
in the operating and avoiding contamination of disease
BANDAGE SCISSORS
Is used to cut bandage
NEEDLE HOLDER
• Is used to hold the needle
SCALPEL HANDLE
is used to connect a sharp blade, forming a
knife for cutting delicate tissue.
THERMOMETER
is used for measuring body temperature. This may
be taken orally, in the rectum.
PERCUSSION HAMMER
is used for testing reflexes.
SMALL BOWL
can be plastic or metal, sterilized or not and can be used for
holding antiseptics and other solutions or as a container for
gauze swabs, cotton balls, etc.
BOWL
Is used for keeping water for washing hands or
washing the body of the patient
TAPE MEASURE
is used for measuring the girth of a patient (the
measurement of the abdomen), swollen limbs and
parts for prostheses.
COTTON BALLS
are used for applying solutions or for removing
nail polish.
TORCH
is used mainly for seeing in the dark. A smaller “pencil” torch is
used for doing neurological observations, for checking the
reaction of the eyes to light stimulus and also for looking at the
mouth and throat.
SKIN MARKING PENCIL
is used for marking areas usually before an operation.
URINOMETER
is used for measuring the PH of urine.
KIDNEY DISH
a container to carry things or a bowl can be sterilized and
used for instruments such as scissors and forceps when
doing a sterile procedure.
SPHYGMOMANOMETER
is used for taking blood pressure.
WHEEL CHAIR
Is used to transport patient who are unable to
walk
PLAIN DISSECTING FORCEPS
are generally used for picking up something(gauze/needle)
or holding things when using a “no touch” sterile technique.
TEETH FORCEPS
Is used for picking up, pulling and holding the tooth
TOUNGUE DEPRESSOR / SPATULA
is used for applying creams or lubricant.
BED LINEN
Is used for the cover the pillow and bed
TROLLEY
Is used for bringing some sterile or non sterile
instrument
EMERGENCY TROLLEY
Is used for bringing some urgent instruments
that needed in fast action in order to avoid
harmful result
LINEN TROLLEY
Is used for bringing for clothes, blanket, sheet,
etc, that need washing.
HOT WATER BOTTLE
Is used to give hot or warm compress.
URINAL
Is used to keep or throw the urine
BED PAN
Is used for keeping or throwing the stool / collecting
the feces (UK), faeces (US)
GAUZE / BANDAGE JAR
Is used to keep the gauze or bandage
TRAY
Is used to bring the instruments, or put and bring
some foods
TUBE OF LUBRICANT
is used to make it easier to pass tubes, optics
devices or a speculum into body orifices (openings).
SYRINGE
Is used for injecting or inserting liquid into body
INFUSION STAND
Is used to hang the infusion bottle / drip (UK) or IV
(US)
CRUTCHES / WALKING STICK
Is used to help lame or unstable patients to walk
VAGINAL SPECULUM
is used for widening the vaginal passage for
examination or biopsy of the cervix.
BED SCREEN
Is used for separating between the patient’s room and giving
privacy the patient
