Definitions
Physical Fitness –
Is considered a measure of the body’s ability to function
efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities to be
healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases, and to meet emergency
situations.
Ability to do daily activities without becoming tired, short of
breath, or sore.
Definitions
General Fitness – is a state of health and well-being.
Specific Fitness – is a task-oriented definition based on the
ability to perform specific aspects of sports or occupation.
HEALTH-RELATED COMPONENTS
• Body Composition – refers to the relative amount of muscle, fat, bone,
and other vital parts of the body. It is important to manage also the
weight of the body.

• Flexibility – is the range of motion in the body. It is the ability to


stretch, bend and twist.
Ex: Sit and reach

• Muscular Endurance – is the ability of the muscle to continue to


perform without fatigue.
Ex: Curl-up

• Muscular Strength – is the ability of the muscle to exert force during
an activity.
Ex: Push-up

• Cardiovascular Endurance – is the ability of the body’s circulatory and


respiratory systems to supply fuel during sustained physical activity.
Ex: Step Test
SKILL-RELATED COMPONENTS
• Agility – is the ability to move quickly and change directions in
different levels.
Ex: Hexagon Agility Test

• Balance – refers to the sense of equilibrium in the body. The weight of


the body rest in the center of gravity.
Ex: Stork Balance

• Speed – is the ability to reach a distance in the shortest period of time.


Ex: 50-meter sprint

• Power – is performing a task quickly and forcibly.
Ex: Standing long jump

• Coordination – is the ability to use body parts and senses together to


produce smooth, efficient movements vital in sports.
Ex: catching and throwing a ball or hand wall toss test

• Reaction Time - is how quickly your brain can respond to a stimulus


and initiate a response.
Ex: Stick drop test or a badminton player reacting to a smash shot
