- Article XIV, Section 2.1

-Kindergarten Education Act
▪ Republic Act 10533
-Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013
WHY K TO 12?
▪ Locally, only 6 of every 1,000 Grade 6 elementary students
are prepared to enter high school.
▪ Only 2 of every 100 4th year high school graduates are fit for
college.
▪ Students have insufficient mastery of basic competencies
due to congested curriculum.
▪ Graduates are ill-prepared for higher education and
employment.
▪ High school graduates, who are usually below 18 years old,
lack basic competencies and maturity.
WHY K TO 12?
▪ The 10-year basic education cycle hinders the recognition of Filipino
professional abroad.
▪ The Washington Accord prescribes 12 years of basic education as
an entry to recognition of engineering professionals.
▪ The Bologna Process also requires 12 years of education for
university admission and practice of profession in European
countries.
▪ The Philippines is the only country in Asia and among the three
remaining countries in the world that has a 10-year basic education
cycle.

REFLECTION
Being part of the academe, I am PRO K-12 because
having this program may have some disadvantages such
as parents having to work harder because of higher
tuition fees because of the extra 2 years in school. But if
we look thoroughly and understand the facts that by
using the K-12 program we can provide students with
more knowledge and be more globally competent. And
students will be more critical in thinking and in problem
solving. They can master the basic education and be
more skillful in the fields that they chose. Personally for
me adding 2 years is nothing compared to the
knowledge and virtues we will learn and the experience
too. Having the K-12 program can open up more
possibilities for success. And it can also help make the
Philippines more fruitful. It can help solve other
problems such as poverty.
. . . Let us empower our Filipino learners through
K to 12
