Competency
Illustrates angles of elevation
and angles of depression.
M9GE-IVd-1
LEARNING
OBJECTIVES:
1. Differentiate angle of elevation and
angle of depression.
2. Illustrate angle of elevation and angle
of depression.
3. Relate the importance of angle of elevatio
and depression in real life situation.
DEF I NIT ION S:
LINE OF SIGHT

LET’S THINK
ABOUT THIS…
1. The angle of elevation of the top of the building from a
point 40 meters away from the building is 75
AS S ESS M EN T
Draw the pictures presented by the information in the problems given.
Assume the buildings, ladders, etc. are all on level ground.
2. The angle of depression of a boy from a point on a
lighthouse 20.5 meters above the surface of the water is 5.
3. If an airplane that is cruising at an altitude of 10 km wants
to land at NAIA, it must begin its descent so that the angle
of depression to the airport is 9.
4. A bird sits on top of a 3-meter lamp post. The angle of
depression from the bird to the feet of an observer standing
away from the lamp post is 45.
5. Two points on the same side of a tree are 20.8 meters
apart. The angles of elevation of the top of the tree are 21
from one point and 16 from the other point.

Ruler, protractor, and drawing materials, cellphone,
improvised clinometer, measuring device.
Directions:
1. Look for a partner.
2. Capture anything that can be seen around your area.
Look up and down to find an object that illustrates angle
of elevation and depression and make a pose. Using the
clinometer, determine the angle of elevation/ depression
from the eye of the observer to that object and your
distance from that object. Ask your partner to help you
record the findings. Don’t forget to take pictures for
documentation.
