IN THE CARIBBEAN AND AROUND THE WORLD


WHAT IS A NATURAL
DISASTER?
• A Natural Disaster is an event with a natural cause
that results in large scale loss of life or damage to
property. It could be related to weather, geology,
biology, or even factors outside the earth.

• Disease epidemics are sometimes considered


natural disasters but may be put into a different
category
EXAMPLES OF NATURAL

• Earthquakes
• Flooding
• Drought
• Hurricanes
• Volcanoes
• Forest fires
EFFECT OF NATURAL
DISASTERS
• These natural disasters usually have severe effects and
cause significant damage to home, property, buildings
and almost everything in and around their path. They
cause the loss of lives of both animals and humans,
destroying trees and so forth. These pictures illustrates
the damages that were caused as a result of the
natural disasters
EARTHQUAKES
• Earthquakes- is the movement of the tectonic plates
of the earths crust causing the earth to shake or
vibrate. Earthquakes can often be very catastrophic
as displayed below.
FLOODING
Flooding- is where rain falls, snow melts or sea
levels rise and cover the land with water. Flooding
often leads to very unnecessary expenses and
transport deadly diseases.
DROUGHT
• Drought- is a condition where by there is extreme
long periods of one type of weather example sun.
droughts can be very detrimental if they are for long
periods.
HURRICANE
• Hurricane- is a disaster that involves high wish
speeds over large area that cause mass destruction.
Hurricanes result in the damage of many homes
rendering families homeless.
VOLCANO
• Volcano- a volcano is a open mountain that emits
lava or magma which consists of molten rock from
below the surface. Volcanoes when erupting often
lead people to make emergency evacuations from
their homes and molten rock is very high
temperature.
FOREST FIRE
• Forest fire- commonly know as wild fire is a
naturally ignited fire due to extreme heat that burn
and damages rapidly burning trees, homes etc.
